MIddle School ELA 6th-8th Grade Teacher

• Serve as a key team member, striving to collaborate whenever possible
• Participate in professional development opportunities presented by Equality or identified independently
• Participate in and contribute to teacher team meetings, PLC meetings, data inquiry team meetings, and coaching meetings (collaboration with instructional coaches)
• Provide two free prep periods per day
• Develop daily lesson plans
• Collaborate with co‑teachers and other support staff to ensure all students’ needs are met
• Maintain a highly‑engaged classroom setting that promotes good order and a love of learning
• Highlight student voices and promote student‑led discovery of meaning
• Serve as an advisor by leading a daily advisory class focused on soft skills needed for academic, career, and life success
• Complete all grades and comments in a timely fashion
• Use data to drive instructional decisions

• A compassionate, scholar‑centered approach grounded in passion and purpose
• A results‑oriented mindset with a strong focus on scholar growth and achievement
• Demonstrated ability to integrate reading and writing strategies into classroom instruction effectively
• Experience designing and facilitating hands‑on, cooperative, and engaging learning experiences
• A proven record of success working with Equality’s scholar population or similar communities
• Experience supporting diverse learners, including English Language Learners, scholars with disabilities, general education scholars, and gifted scholars
• Strong interpersonal skills and a history of meaningful collaboration with colleagues, families, and scholars
• Clear, effective communication skills, including strong writing and presentation abilities
• Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and follow‑through
• A proactive, reflective, and creative problem‑solver who takes initiative
• Openness to feedback and a commitment to continuous growth and improvement
• A collaborative team player who can work independently and take ownership of responsibilities
• Strong professional references from prior supervisors and colleagues

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field required
• Master’s degree in a related field preferred
• New York State certification in the relevant subject area preferred
