This is a grant funded position.

Within the larger scope of formal and informal learning of the Programs & Services Department’s Children, Youth & Family Services division, the Assistant Coordinator of Teen Services helps ensure the quality and delivery of programs and services to middle and high school students, young adults, and their adult supporters. The Assistant Coordinator will be responsible for planning, sourcing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating innovative, impactful, and culturally responsive programs and services for teen and young adult audiences.

Content will include but is not limited to STEAM activities, career readiness, digital and information literacies and youth leadership, through in-person, virtual and hybrid programs using an array of technologies and social media platforms. As a member of the Teen initiative team, the Assistant Coordinator will work closely with community library staff as well as the Teen Center Site Coordinators, the Coordinator of College Readiness and Youth Justice, the Digital Literacy Lead Instructors and the Civic Engagement team to support programs at Teen Centers and Innovation Stations.

This position reports to the Coordinator of Teen Services and assists with the timely collection and accurate reporting of all program related data, including but not limited to program participation and activities, schedules, branch visits and reports to funders.

Major Responsibilities

Programs and Services

  • Alongside the Coordinator of Teen Services, creates outcomes of programs and services and utilizes available data to assess and evaluate programs.
  • Assists with the coordination, creation, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs and services in person, virtually and hybrid.
  • Works with community library staff, community partners and other stakeholders to develop innovative services for Teens.
  • Takes a lead role in the successful planning, implementation and evaluation of select initiatives such as Innovation Stations, March Manga Madness and Teen Mental Health Month, Summer Reading, and other system-wide programming as determined by leadership.
  • Works closely with members of the Teen Initiative team, including the Coordinators of College Readiness and Youth Justice, Teen Center Site Coordinators, Digital Literacy Lead Instructors and the Civic Engagement team to coordinate efforts, replicate models and leverage existing programs and talents.
  • Stays abreast of national trends and innovative ways to engage audiences by researching partnerships and programs and by planning and meeting with colleagues in other departments and at branches.
  • Assists with communicating about teen programming with other departments (Finance, Marketing, ITD, Procurement, Collections, Queens Public Library Foundation and others).
  • Collects and organizes other relevant program and service data (programming evaluations, surveys, direct feedback, site visits, etc.).
  • Works with branch staff on the implementation of QPLF innovation grants and other specialized, restricted public and private funding.
  • Research new partners and identifies opportunities that will increase participation by existing and new audiences through these partnerships.
  • Provides coverage at program sites if needed.

Administrative Tasks

  • As needed, supervises staff and manages resource allocation for Teen Services support. Manages certain resource allocations for select teen programs and services support by working with supervisors, other departments and branches to equitably plan in advance for programs and services to ensure fiscal and other deadlines are met.
  • Manages select grant-funded programs including their reporting and expenses.
  • Create LAMPS and SAP entries, including but not limited to, program description, tracking and marketing, purchase orders, requisitions and goods receipts as needed.
  • Selects and coordinates the scheduling and implementation of a broad variety of age-appropriate enrichment programs/activities throughout the libraries contingent on funding, branch needs and capacity, and other operational concerns.
