Health and Wellness Educator (Association Subject Educator II)
Position OverviewThis full‑time, non‑exempt position (100% FTE, 37.5 hours per week) represents the Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Essex County as Health and Wellness Educator, building local food connections across all CCE Essex program areas, developing educational materials, and partnering with local food system stakeholders.

Responsibilities- Program Development – Assist in the creation of Family Health & Wellness educational programming and strategies; research and select resources; build Extension/Cornell University faculty connections; develop voluntary financial systems for senior programs; support fundraising, grant proposal drafting, and virtual adaptation of in‑person programming; develop social media and “Food as Medicine” outreach; prepare educational materials linking health outcomes to local food; collaborate with Executive Director and other staff on Community Vitality Program delivery.
- Program Delivery & Evaluation – Teach existing educational programs, create lesson plans, deliver content through various modalities (one‑on‑one, group, workshops); advise senior wellness programs; promote local food through Agriculture in the Classroom and Power of Produce Club; advise food pantries on incorporating local food; contribute to data resources about food access; communicate findings and recommendations; support research on nutrient‑dense produce.
- Administrative & Operational Duties – Plan and prioritize Community Vitality programs; coordinate marketing strategies, including print, news, social media; manage program data and reporting; oversee program volunteers; collaborate on mass media efforts; maintain professional relationships with community partners; may transport program participants and materials.
- Professional Development – Develop and pursue a professional training plan with the Executive Director; engage in broader organizational support activities.
- Health & Safety – Follow all applicable safety regulations and report hazards.
- Master’s degree or equivalent education (Bachelor’s degree with four years of evidence‑based research experience).
- Relevant experience for the role.
- Valid NYS driver’s license and ability to meet travel requirements.
- Flexibility to work evenings or weekends as needed.
- Familiarity with local food and family wellness programs.
- Knowledge of county and town areas and community organizations.
- Ability to plan, teach and evaluate informal educational programs.
- Team‑player skills working with volunteers and staff.
- Organizational skills for reference materials.
- Cultivating relationships with diverse audiences.
- Effective communication orally, in writing and visually.
- Computer literacy for educational and communication purposes.
- Experience leading large community events.
