FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

The City University of New York (CUNY) is hiring a Visiting Professor at the senior faculty level of full or associate professor for the Dr. Thomas Tam Visiting Professorship in Asian American Studies, for the  academic year. Visiting faculty are individuals with a primary commitment to another accredited college or university who possess advanced scholarship or professional achievement. This distinguished position is open to senior scholars with a strong record of teaching, research, and service in Asian American studies.

The Dr. Thomas Tam Visiting Professor will be based at CUNY's Asian American / Asian Research Institute (AAARI), a University-wide institute that promotes undergraduate and graduate education in Asian
-American studies and educates civic, business, and academic leaders, and the general public, on issues of concern to the Asian American community. Upon mutual agreement, the visiting faculty member may also elect to be based at one of the four CUNY campuses participating in the search, Brooklyn College, Hunter College, Queens College or the Graduate Center, where they will teach one course per semester, and will actively engage with students and faculty members during the appointment.

The visiting scholar may organize a CUNY-wide seminar each semester on a topic in their field (6 sessions, 15-20 faculty participants) in lieu of teaching a course. Additionally, they will organize at least 1 student-facing event during the academic year. They will also participate in public events designed to raise the visibility of scholarship in Asian American studies.

This distinctive position presents a unique opportunity for a leading scholar to contribute to New York City's diverse academic and cultural landscape while supporting AAARI's mission and strengthening Asian American studies  candidate will work with AAARI and CUNY faculty to develop and enrich the CUNY research agenda in Asian American studies. They will share responsibility for committee and department assignments, performing administrative, supervisory, and other functions as assigned.

NOTE:

Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

QUALIFICATIONS

For Associate or Full Professor:

Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred:

Substantial research experience, expertise and publications on the Asian American experience are required. Areas of focus may include civic and political engagement; demographic change; religious and ethnic identities; gender and sexuality; health, illness, and disability; aging and intergenerational relations; entrepreneurship and economic development; diasporic and transnational communities; and others.

COMPENSATION

Salary range is $90,000 - $138,000, commensurate with rank, credentials, qualifications and experience.

An additional $5,000 is available to reimburse relevant research travel and other research expenses.
