Founded in 1901, Brooklyn Law School is a distinguished, independent law school located in Downtown Brooklyn, New York. The Law School is searching for an Associate Director of Career Development to join our team. The Law School’s size, vibrant employee and student population, and commitment to training the next generation of lawyers and promoting social justice, will offer a candidate the opportunity to develop and diversify practical skills and participate firsthand in operating a successful educational institution.

Reporting to the Associate Dean of Career Development, the Associate Director of Career Development will play a vital role for providing quality career development services to students and alumni, creating employer partnerships, and increasing the visibility of Brooklyn Law School. The Associate Director will advise students and alumni on effective career development and relevant job search strategies. These services will be provided via one-on-one career advisement, as well as the management and production of career workshops, career fairs, and networking/community building activities.

They will also help market these services to students and alumni through various channels. The Associate Director will help lead the department's efforts to prepare students and alumni to compete in their desired career field. The Associate Director will work in collaboration with students, faculty, employers, peer schools, and other key stakeholders to achieve these goals.

Responsibilities
  • Provide personal advising and coaching to JD and LLM students regarding career development and job search strategies;
  • Review students’ resumes and cover letters;
  • Prepare students for job interviews and conduct mock interviews;
  • Remain current on developments in the legal market and practice-area trends;
  • Develop, organize, and administer professional development and career-related programming;
  • Participate and collaborate with law school committees, student affinity groups, faculty and staff to enhance Career Development Center initiatives;
  • Assist in updating career-related resources;
  • Participate in relevant bar associations and committees;
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with students and alumni, faculty, staff and administration;
  • Perform all the above with sense of humor, compassion, patience, courtesy and creativity.
Required
  • Undergraduate degree and J.D. degree;
  • A minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience in a demanding professional work environment required.
Preferred
  • Knowledge of diversity and inclusion best practices;
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills;
  • Experience working with databases, competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook;
  • Demonstrated ability to work within culturally diverse populations;
  • Strong demonstrated commitment to professional development;
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully multi-task, plan events, and manage projects with a high degree of attention to detail;
  • Having completed a judicial clerkship is also a valuable preferred experience.
  • This position is eligible for a hybrid schedule, requiring a minimum in-office presence of four (4) days per week during the academic year when classes are in session and during exam periods. During the summer and academic breaks, when classes are not in session and exams are not being administered, a minimum of three (3) days per week of in-office presence is required.
