The Town School is a 113 year-old coeducational Nursery through 8th Grade school on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. We now seek a middle school Associate Math Teacher (5th through 8th grade) for the school year, building on our history of excellence and collaborating with our accomplished faculty. The position, similar to a Math Teaching Fellow, is perfect for new teachers who want to grow and learn under the mentorship of experienced teachers. Associate teachers typically serve for 1-2 years and are eligible to apply for Head teaching positions as they arise.
The salary range for this position is $57,000 - $59,000 based on degree level and experience.
- Collaborate closely with a Head Math teacher to:
- Create and maintain a safe, inclusive, and effective classroom environment
- Co‑plan and implement a purposeful, balanced Math program in a nurturing environment
- Help to differentiate instruction by working with small groups within the classroom
- Plan communication with families about individual students’ progress, including grading and assisting in the writing of mid‑year and year‑end reports
- Partner with grade‑level and department colleagues regarding Town’s Math curriculum during weekly math planning meetings
- Communicate with colleagues across the grade, the division, and the School
- Step into the Head Teacher role when necessary, ensuring continuity of instruction
- Collaborate with the Guidance Team and participate in Guidance meetings
- Serve as a full community member by attending meetings, participating in committees, and performing various duties to supervise students
- Continue to grow professionally through in‑service training, workshops and/or coursework
- Support the spirit of community by embracing the School’s moral mission of “Taking Care of Town:

- Bachelor’s degree; a degree in Education or relevant field preferred
- A strong passion for working with students ages 10‑14; 1‑3 years teaching experience in a middle school setting preferred
