Elementary Education Director
The Elementary Education Director is responsible for the overall leadership, supervision, administration, and daily operations of the organization's after school, school partnerships, and summer camp offerings for school-age youth. The Director ensures spaces are safe, engaging, educational, developmentally appropriate, and aligned with the mission and values of the organization.
The Director oversees staff, student supervision, family communication, planning, enrichment activities, compliance requirements, and operational coordination. This role requires a strong leader who can build positive relationships with students, families, and staff while maintaining a structured and nurturing environment.
The ideal candidate has experience managing and leading diverse staff, building systems and structures, and working with stakeholders to meet collective goals.
Program Leadership & Operations- Oversee the daily operation of after school, Elementary summer camp, and school partnerships.
- Supervise and support staff.
- Develop and maintain a safe, positive, structured, and engaging environment for all participants.
- Ensure all programs operate in compliance with organizational policies, safety procedures, and applicable program requirements.
- Oversee team planning, coordination, and supervision of enrichment activities.
- Lead implementation of behavior management strategies and student support practices.
- Conduct regular observations and provide staff coaching, guidance, and performance feedback.
- Assist with hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and training program staff.
- Oversee participant enrollment, attendance tracking, and family communication.
- Ensure all incidents, injuries, and behavioral concerns are properly documented and reported.
- Ensure accurate records are kept, including attendance, incident reports, payroll/timekeeping, meal records, and activity logs.
- Ensure spaces are clean, organized, and safe.
- Oversee the organization's summer camp program.
- Ensure weekly camp schedules, themes, enrichment activities, and recreational programming are aligned with A House on Beekman's philosophy of developmentally appropriate, engaging educational practices.
- Coordinate field trips, transportation, special events, and partnerships.
- Ensure all summer camp compliance requirements, permission slips, medical records, and safety procedures are completed and maintained.
- Supervise camp staff and ensure proper training for summer operations.
- Build positive relationships with participants and families.
- Serve as a positive role model through professionalism, communication, leadership, and conduct.
- Address parent and guardian concerns and communicate updates effectively.
- Support youth development through mentorship, encouragement, and positive reinforcement.
- Promote an inclusive environment that fosters belonging, respect, and community engagement.
- Ensure all staff complete required background checks, fingerprinting, and mandated training.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding participants, families, and staff matters.
- Assist with compliance documentation related to after school and summer camp operations.
- Ensure emergency procedures, sign-in/sign-out systems, and participant accountability procedures are consistently followed.
- Attend required meetings, training, and professional development activities.
- Cross-collaborate with other senior leaders, ensuring alignment and consistency in organizational practices.
- Assist with organization evaluations and continuous quality improvement efforts.
- Bachelor's degree in education, program management, non-profit leadership, or related field, or equivalent experience in leadership and management.
- Minimum of 2 years experience working in leadership or management settings.
- Experience with systems building and implementation.
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to pass criminal background checks and fingerprinting requirements.
- Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
- Spanish-speaking
- Youth development, recreation, or camp leadership certifications are a plus
- CPR/First Aid Certification preferred
Recommended salary range based on nonprofit after school and summer camp leadership responsibilities:
- $70,000 $ 80,000 annually depending on:
- Program size
- Leadership or Management experience
- Educational background
