Wednesday 12:00 pm – 6:00 pm.

Compensation
: $25 per hour (22 hours per week).

East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP) has served students since 1958, growing into a multi‑site after‑school program that supports public and charter schools. Our goal is to serve at least 25 % of East Harlem students by 2025; this year’s enrollment is about 2 200 students. In 2020, 99 % of our seniors were accepted to college, and our scholars are on track to graduate at eight times the national average.

The Work and Why it Matters

The Robotics Instructor plays an integral role in the school‑year program’s success by fostering an inspiring, collaborative community through project‑based engineering, social‑emotional learning, and effective classroom management. The instructor works with Grades 9–12, leads the championship‑winning robotics team through rigorous technical challenges, engages scholars in meaningful weekly hands‑on lessons, guides youth workers, and facilitates team preparation for local and regional competitions.

What Qualifies You
  • At least 2 years of teaching or industry experience in middle or high school robotics.
  • Associate’s Degree or at least 60 college credits in engineering or a related science field.
  • At least 2 years of experience teaching middle or high school students in after‑school or summer camp settings.
  • Experience working with diverse populations (academic, cultural, and ethnic).
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and learning through professional development.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to program and student needs, willing to work with any age range from 9‑12.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Competency with Google and/or Microsoft Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Email).
  • At least 2 years of experience creating and implementing project‑based lesson plans centered on an end‑of‑term project or performance.

    Create, submit, and teach engaging robotics lesson plans; ensure sessions run smoothly, debug issues patiently, and guide scholars toward a final digital project or showcase at year’s end.
  • Coding Instructor Partner Guidance:
    Partner with the Coding Instructor to plan, create, and deliver lessons that align with the season’s Robot and FIRST Robotics goals; share session goals to facilitate code troubleshooting.
  • Inclusive Tech Environment:
    Build a coding lab and classroom community where everyone feels safe, welcome, and respected; maintain routines that demystify technology and encourage creative problem‑solving.
  • Responsive Scholar Support:
    Provide 1:1 guidance to scholars needing extra encouragement, logical troubleshooting, or technical support.
  • Active Supervision:
    Maintain a caring, watchful presence; collaborate with the team to ensure all scholars are safe and accounted for during sessions, meal times, and digital‑free transitions.
  • Hardware & Software Stewardship:
    Collaborate with leadership and operations to secure and maintain devices; take pride in the technology space by ensuring laptops, chargers, and tools are handled, stored, and organized.
