Role Description This is an on-site, contract Perinatal Educator role based in New York, NY. The Perinatal Educator will plan, deliver, and evaluate classes and workshops on topics such as pregnancy wellness, labor and birth, pain management options, infant care, infant CPR, lactation, and early parenting. The educator will provide group educational classes for 4-5 couples at a time. Responsibilities also include maintaining accurate attendance and session records, coordinating class schedules and ensuring a welcoming, inclusive learning environment.
The Perinatal Educator role is self scheduling, classes typically are run in the evening on weekdays and occasional weekends, scheduling is flexible based on availability.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience providing perinatal, childbirth, or lactation education in group and one-on-one settings.
- Strong skills in curriculum development, lesson planning, and adapting content to diverse learning needs and literacy levels.
- Excellent communication, active listening, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment.
- Proficiency in organizing schedules, managing multiple classes or client appointments, and maintaining accurate documentation.
- Knowledge of current evidence-based perinatal care practices, community resources, and patient education principles.
- Certification as a childbirth educator, perinatal educator, doula, or lactation professional (e.g., CBE, LCCE, IBCLC, CLC) preferred or willingness to obtain within an agreed timeframe.
- Ability to work on-site in New York, NY, including some evenings or weekends as needed for classes or events.
- Ability to work respectfully with individuals and families from varied cultural, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds; additional language proficiency is a plus.
- Basic computer skills for creating materials, managing schedules, and entering data; familiarity with electronic record systems is beneficial.
