DCAS Special Officer Test Practice

Responsibilities

New York City Special Officers provide onsite security for all Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) buildings across the five boroughs. They are tasked with conducting preliminary investigations, inspecting building rule violations and criminal complaints, and implementing corrective and preventive measures. They also assist with emergency planning.

To become a New York City Special Officer, you must pass a civil service exam that tests job‑related skills used in daily duties. The exam is a multiple‑choice, computer‑formatted aptitude test. It does not evaluate specific laws or codes, but your ability to succeed broadly on the tasks assigned to you.

You must score at least 70% to pass. A higher score places you higher on the hiring list for new openings. Passing does not guarantee immediate placement but qualifies you for consideration.
