We are seeking a Prevention Middle School Education Specialist to join HSVS’s American Dream Program under the supervision of the Director of Youth Development. The Specialist will provide data‑driven, trauma‑informed educational support to students and families in the Prevention Program for grades 6‑8, focusing on academic progression, attendance, and high school transition.

• Manage a caseload of all middle school students in grades 6‑8 within the Prevention Program.
• Work with caseworkers, families, and school staff to address educational concerns.
• Build and maintain collaborative relationships with schools; advocate on behalf of children/youth.
• Provide individualized assistance to 8th grade students and families for the high school application and selection process each year.
• Create, facilitate, and support workshops for families and youth on educational support.
• Review NYC Public Schools monthly data, attendance, and transcripts to identify struggling students; collaborate with youth, caseworkers, and parents to improve attendance and provide academic supports.
• Connect students below grade level to quality tutoring and arrange referrals for IEP evaluations and behavioral/academic supports.
• Negotiate with NYCPS staff to implement recommended educational services.
• Connect middle school students to quality after school and summer activities.
• Arrange, assign, and monitor tutoring impact; observe sessions and document progress notes on the Fair Futures platform.
• Maintain monthly documentation of Middle School data, goals, and steps on the Fair Futures platform.
• Participate in weekly, monthly, and ongoing virtual and in‑person agency-wide, Youth Development, and Education Team meetings, trainings, events, programs, and workshops.

• Bachelor’s degree required;
  Master’s degree or equivalent preferred.
• Two or more years working with youth or NYCPS in an instructional, administrative, or advocacy role.
• Experience leading workshops and trainings.
• Flexibility to travel throughout the five boroughs and work evenings and weekends.
• Preferred: experience in college access and college success programs; experience with students and families in foster care.
• Ability to navigate complex educational issues, work independently, and remain resourceful.
• Experience with special education, education team meetings, and student advocacy preferred.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Computer skills: proficient with Microsoft Office and databases, including Microsoft Access.
• Strong organizational, analytical, creative, and critical thinking abilities; confident with data and task prioritization.
