Summary
Responsible for providing individual needs assessment and developing short and long‑term goals. The Youth Worker plans and monitors the Youth Council and recruits participants.
Responsibilities- Conduct initial needs assessment, intake and orientation of new participants.
- Create short‑ and long‑term goals for participants based on the needs assessment.
- Maintain teen participant folders and applications.
- Develop and implement lesson plans for Youth Council and youth leadership activities and special initiatives.
- Collect participants’ report cards to monitor their educational progress and keep track of youth academic life.
- Monitor and track participant attendance; conduct outreach to support retention.
- Assist with the recruitment of teen participants.
- Co‑facilitate Parent Meetings.
- Keep the Program Director and Assistant Director informed of any changes and abnormalities that may occur.
- Submit weekly reports to the Program Director and Assistant Director on a timely basis.
- Attend all program staff meetings, trainings, and special events.
- Assist other staff when needed.
Part‑time. Work hours are:
Monday‑Friday 6pm‑10pm; some Saturdays 12am‑5pm;
Monday‑Friday 6pm‑11pm.
- Ability and patience to work with children and young people, recognizing their exuberance and juvenile behaviour, particularly in group settings.
- Remain in a stationary position either working at a computer or monitoring activities.
- Move for long periods, providing instruction.
- Travel when taking field trips, using public transportation, traversing city streets, ascending/descending stairs, and be exposed to outside weather conditions while escorting youth.
- Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED; AA or BA degree preferred.
- 2 years of Youth Worker experience.
- Experience facilitating workshops and providing one‑on‑one peer mediation (preferred).
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with teams.
- Demonstrated ability to work with families who face exceptional challenges.
- Excellent social skills, demonstrating empathy and support.
