Middle School Art and Makerspace Associate Teacher

The Speyer Legacy School is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and passionate full‑time Art and Makerspace Associate Teacher to support the Art program and Creative & Computational Thinking (CCT) program in the Middle School. Reporting to the Head of the Middle School, the ideal candidate will collaborate with faculty and staff to enhance STEAM education and support learning across the Makerspace and Art studio in alignment with the school’s mission and curricular goals.

The candidate should possess creative problem‑solving skills, a sense of humor, enthusiasm for innovative curriculum design, and strong interpersonal abilities to collaborate effectively with colleagues.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with Art and CCT teachers to support lesson planning, instruction, and classroom management.
  • Lead small‑group instruction, provide support during whole-group activities, lead lessons on occasion, and cover classes as needed.
  • Actively support Art and CCT teachers in maintaining the daily operations of the classroom, including organizing and maintaining materials and equipment.
  • Contribute to implementing classroom procedures and routines and fostering a positive class community.
  • Participate in and support Middle School student activities such as Lunch/Recess, Morning and Dismissal Duties, Advisory, field trips, Electives, and clubs.
  • Assist in providing feedback to students and families as needed, and preparing student progress reports and narrative report cards by sharing insights into students' progress and areas for growth.
  • Collaborate with teachers to communicate regularly with families regarding classroom activities and student progress.
  • Participate in parent‑teacher conferences and writing report cards, as needed.
  • Attend faculty meetings and PD Days, and engage in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching practices.
  • Other responsibilities may include lunch duties, morning duties, and providing coverage as needed.

  • Experience working with children in a STEAM‑related context or Makerspace.
  • Experience teaching technology, new media, design engineering, or computer science.
  • Interest in and knowledge of Art education and/or Design Thinking education.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and families.
  • Capacity for collaboration and a willingness to learn from others.
  • Comfort giving and receiving feedback to support professional growth.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Art, Technology, Design, or a related field required.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
Salary

The salary range for this position is $60,000 - $64,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Hours
  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday: 7:45 AM - 3:45 PM
  • Tuesday: 7:45 AM - 4:45 PM (for faculty meetings)
  • Occasional attendance at evening events such as Curriculum Night, Admissions Open Door Event, and Graduation.
  • Some preparation and planning may be required outside of regular school hours.
