Fencing Park Operations & Engagement VISTA

The Prescod Institute for Sport, Teamwork, and Education is a 501(c)(3) community fencing program and learning center founded in the summer of 2020. We combine high-quality instruction in the combat sport of foil fencing with improved access to quality educational and enrichment opportunities to increase upward mobility outcomes among Black and Brown youth aged 8 to 15+ in underserved communities across New York City.

Our intention is to inspire excellence and support our students in becoming their best selves through exposure to the rigor of foil fencing and its principles of discipline, strategic thinking, problem solving, fitness and respect. To further our mission, we are searching for a self-motivated and diligent Operations and Community Engagement Coordinator to closely support PISTE leadership. The person in this role will support activities key to the success of our organization that include: systems development, program operations, community events logistics, strategic partnerships coordination, parent and community engagement, and volunteer recruitment and engagement.

Our program home is in the heart of East New York Brooklyn’s Starrett City community (at 1364 Pennsylvania Avenue). As the role is primarily in-person (with some virtual hours), the Operations and Community Engagement Coordinator would need to be able to make this commute regularly. The ideal candidate will be a very proactive, mission-driven, dependable, and detail-oriented systems thinker who is highly responsive, is a quick learner, and is adept at creative problem-solving.

Strong administrative support, event logistics, nonprofit program management, and Zoom session moderating experience is preferred, as well as strong spreadsheet skills and an ability to leverage technology to streamline processes that include data collection, reporting and analysis.

• Develop and automate new program and data collection processes.
• Lead recruitment of volunteers.
• Develop a volunteer database tracker.
• Create PISTE Virtual Tutoring informational materials and develop more efficient ways to track attendance and reporting.
• Create a calendar with PISTE's annual events and programming.
