Location: New York

Education Specialist

Police Athletic League (PAL) is the largest independent youth organization in New York City that partners with the New York City Police Department to provide educational and recreational activities for children and young adults.

Location: PS 78 35 Hill Street, Staten Island, NY 10304

Salary: $42.00 per hour

Days &

Hours:

3 days a week for 3 hours a day

Major Duties and Responsibilities
  • Model and uphold all Agency rules.
  • Identify and develop curricula suitable for after school and summer programs, ensuring thematic and Common Core standards alignment.
  • Work with the Center Director to oversee program activities and assist staff with lesson delivery.
  • Use data from evaluation reports and school input to foster continuous quality improvement of curricula and activities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with principals and school staff to align PAL and school goals.
  • Provide training to group leaders, teachers, and activity specialists.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating center parent workshops.
  • Present constructive suggestions for program improvement and propose alternative solutions.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Submit weekly, monthly written and verbal reports as requested.
  • Attend meetings with the Education Department and center stakeholders to support program delivery.
  • Assist with planning, set up, and cleanup for special events.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field; NYS Teaching Certification preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in Education or a related field strongly preferred.
  • At least two years of experience in curriculum development and lesson planning.
  • Experience implementing structured programming for elementary or middle school youth; classroom teaching experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with integrating New York Common Core Language Standards into project‑based learning activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with responsibility and organization.
  • Team player.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
