Instructional Literacy Coach Literacy - MLL / Dual Language (On-Site NYC Boroughs)

Teaching Matters is a national nonprofit organization headquartered in New York City, dedicated to closing the opportunity gap in education for underserved and historically marginalized children. We partner with schools to develop teachers and leaders' skills for effective, culturally responsive instruction.

We seek an educational consultant to coach teachers and administrators on‑site throughout the five boroughs. The role focuses on:

• Coaching teachers and school leaders to create and implement culturally responsive lessons, resources, and activities.
• Developing customized coaching plans based on needs assessments.
• Facilitating teacher teams to analyze data and identify inequitable practices.
• Guiding school leaders to enact systemic changes that foster professional collaboration and student success.
• Building understanding of culturally responsive pedagogy and racial literacy among teachers and leaders.
• Establishing trusting relationships with partners and empowering educators.

• Minimum 3–4 years experience as a literacy coach and 4+ years teaching K‑5 or 5th‑8th grade literacy.
• Strong experience with NYC Reads, ELL, and MLL / Dual Language.
• Content expertise in literacy with a culturally responsive lens.
• Proven effectiveness in achieving measurable student outcomes.
• Experience facilitating teacher teams to drive student results.
• Dynamic presenter able to engage large groups in professional workshops.
• Experience coaching teachers in culturally responsive practices and curriculum development.
• Passion for advocating for students and communities traditionally marginalized.
• Experience in urban school settings.
• Technology proficiency and ability to use Zoom, Google Suite, and other collaboration tools.
• Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, organizational, writing, and communication skills.
• Superior interpersonal skills to motivate and lead at all school levels.
• Commitment to Teaching Matters’ mission, vision, and core values.

• Supporting students with special needs.
• Research‑based culturally responsive teaching background.

• Per diem: $640.56 to $666.06/day; training days: $540.60.
• Full‑time salary: $83,471 – $97,381.
