Counselor
-Lead, Inspire, and Make a Difference! Are you passionate about education and making a difference in the lives of youth and young adults? Glenmont Job Corps is looking for a dedicated Counselor to join our team! This role is essential in helping students develop and follow individualized career plans while ensuring strong early retention and long‑term success in the program.

Responsibilities
  • Valid in‑state driver’s license is required.
  • Hours:

    Monday and Friday 8am–5pm;
    Tuesday–Thursday 11am–8pm.
  • Provide personal/career counseling for students to enhance employability and ensure continued enrollment and quantifiable success in the Job Corps program.
  • Identify and remediate student barriers to success and develop individualized career educational plans.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality of sensitive information and integrity of student data.
  • Serve as acting Counseling/CPP Manager in the manager’s absence.
  • Follow all integrity guidelines and procedures, ensuring no manipulation of student data.
  • Ensure student caseload meets or exceeds DOL/Company performance goals.
  • Provide comprehensive, individualized case management, ensuring student progress, retention, and completion of the program.
  • Establish supportive/mentoring relationships with students throughout enrollment; provide personal, educational, and career counseling.
  • Provide ongoing assessment of student progress in academics, career technical, and independent living.
  • Develop and update student Personal Career Development Plans.
  • Coordinate services for students (on‑center and off‑center) to ensure retention and success.
  • Transport students as needed.
  • Routinely evaluate and document student performance using the case‑management system.
  • Contribute to the Center’s culture by treating students with care and respect, assisting them in achieving personal and career goals, and ensuring they feel safe and welcomed during enrollment.
  • Produce quality work/assignments in a thorough, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Maintain appropriate personal attendance, accountability, and work‑productivity standards.
  • Plan, prioritize, and organize assignments to meet established goals and deadlines.
  • Understand and apply job knowledge to effectively complete all required responsibilities.
  • Proactively maintain the skills required to perform job duties.
  • Mentor, monitor, and model the Career Success Standards as required by the PRH.
  • Provide high‑quality supervision and management for the student population.
  • Takes swift and appropriate action to positively influence student behavior.
  • Show respect and courtesy to students and hold them accountable for their actions and behavior.
  • Provide quality programs and services for students, ensuring quality is maintained and student needs are met.
  • Pursue improvement and enhancement of programs and services.
  • Exchange ideas and information, both orally and in writing, in a clear and concise manner, and contribute meaningfully to group efforts by offering relevant ideas and knowledge.
  • Provide quality and timely information to DOL/Company when requested.
  • Effectively articulate thoughts and ideas.
  • Identify problems, analyze causes, and evaluate appropriate solutions prior to taking or recommending actions.
  • Follow up to ensure prompt/appropriate action is taken and that problems are in fact corrected.
  • Work in partnership with staff from all departments to ensure effective supervision and services are provided to students.
  • Accept direction and supervision from the Center Director/Center Duty Officer/Shift Manager, including assignments to temporarily perform job responsibilities of other departments and positions.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree (including at least 15 semester hours in Social Services‑related instruction) from an accredited school.
  • Valid in‑state driver’s license (required).
