Special Education Teacher
The Special Education Teacher provides high quality instruction to students with disabilities. Qualifications include holding a valid New York State Special Education Teacher Certification (7-12; K-12), knowledge of NYS Learning Standards, and familiarity with the Committee on Special Education process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal writing, implementation, and progress monitoring. Experience in providing special education students with learning experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth in the least restrictive environment is required.
Additionally, experience in developing and/or modifying curriculum, preparing lessons, and providing specially designed instruction to address individual student needs is necessary. The role also requires establishing and maintaining open communication with parents, students, teachers, and other relevant stakeholders, flexibility to meet the needs of a range of student learners, in-depth knowledge of effective interventions, and the ability to work effectively with a variety of staff.
Strong communication skills, proven success working with students, and strong organizational and planning skills are essential. Responsibilities include differentiating instruction based upon student learning styles, utilizing data information systems and engaging in data analysis to formulate action plans to support students, participating in the Committee on Special Education process, Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal writing, implementation, and progress monitoring, providing special education students with learning experiences designed to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth in the least restrictive environment, developing and/or modifying curriculum, preparing lessons, and providing specially designed instruction to address individual student needs, knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding special education and students, and the ability to engage culturally diverse students;
and the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Director of Elementary or Secondary Special Education, or other district office administration. The position of Special Education Teacher is a ten-month position. The terms established in accordance with the contract between the Superintendent of Schools and the Victor Teachers' Association.
Evaluation is per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the Victor Central Teachers' Association. Reports to the Building Principal and Director of Elementary or Secondary Special Education. Salary:
Minimum starting salary $48,502 (negotiable based on experience) per the contract between Victor Central Schools and the Victor Central Teachers' Association.
