Special Education Assistant, Teacher Assistant/ Paraprofessional, Summer Seasonal
CiTi BOCES is seeking dependable, student-centered Substitute Teaching Assistants to support Regional Summer School programs serving students in grades 9–12. Substitute Teaching Assistants will provide essential classroom support in the absence of the regular Teaching Assistant, helping to ensure continuity of services and a structured, supportive learning environment.
This role is ideal for individuals who are flexible, collaborative, and committed to supporting diverse learners, including students participating in credit recovery and academic skill development.
Responsibilities- Assist the classroom teacher in implementing instructional activities and lesson plans
- Provide academic and behavioral support to students individually or in small groups
- Support students with IEPs and 504 plans under the direction of the teacher
- Help maintain a safe, organized, and positive classroom environment
- Supervise students during instructional periods, transitions, and designated times as assigned
- Reinforce classroom routines, expectations, and behavioral supports
- Assist with classroom materials, organization, and preparation
- Monitor student engagement and report concerns to the teacher or administration
- Take direction from the teacher or administrator to adapt support based on student needs
- Maintain confidentiality of student information at all times
- Participate in any required orientation or training sessions
- Monitor student progress and assist with feedback as directed by the teacher
- Assist with attendance and basic record-keeping
- Communicate with teachers and administrators regarding student needs
- Fulfill all duties associated with summer school procedures, expectations, and timelines

Position Type: Seasonal / Part-Time
Reports To: Regional Summer School Principal

Qualifications- Required:
- NYS Teaching Assistant Certification
- Preferred:
- Experience working with secondary students (grades 9–12)
- Experience supporting students with disabilities or at-risk populations
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to follow direction and work collaboratively with teachers and staff
- Patience, flexibility, and strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage student behavior in a supportive and consistent manner
- Assignments are on an as-needed basis and may vary by day and location
