Position Overview

The Assistant Principal of Student Services is responsible for directing and facilitating the campus-based support of diverse learners by ensuring that compliance mandates are met for students receiving specialized services and that effective Tier 2 and Tier 3 instructional practices are executed with quality in all classrooms. The Assistant Principal manages and develops the school-based Student Services Team, composed of grade-level Learning Specialists, school Social Workers, Speech Pathologists, and related service providers.

Reporting to the campus Principal and the network Director of Student Services, the Assistant Principal is directly responsible for implementing Brilla’s Multi-tiered Student Supports framework, ensuring all federal and state compliance regulations are met, creating related service providers’ schedules, communicating regularly with outside agencies, managing direct communication with the Committee for Special Education, and analyzing school-based and student-based data for interventions.

  • Instructional Leadership
  • Model a deep understanding of instructional best practices and command of Specially Designed Instruction.
  • Conduct regular classroom observations, live coach and provide feedback that urgently develops and deepens teachers’ understanding of instructional practice in support of high student achievement for Learning Specialists, Integrated Co-Teaching Teachers, Speech Language Pathologist.
  • Plan, facilitate, and attend regular, mission-critical programming including weekly leadership meetings, network AP meetings, IEP meetings, summer development sessions, data days, parent workshops, family conferences, and other administrative activities.
  • Lead the development and implementation of best practices as the Special Education Inclusion Coordinator.
  • Engage in ongoing analysis of student data to inform strategy, professional development and adjustments to instruction in support of achieving high student outcomes.
  • Create and facilitate weekly professional development sessions for staff aligned to instructional goals of the campus, as directed by the principal to keep staff current with special education practices.
  • Provide pull-out, push-in, small group, and one-on-one instruction, implementing strategies for differentiated instruction.
  • Talent Management
  • Demonstrate strong collaboration and communication with all team members and network partners.
  • Provide coaching and observation for Integrated Co-Teaching (ICT) Teachers, Speech-Language Pathologists (SLP), and Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS), Social Workers and Behavior Specialists.
  • Support principal with the interviewing, hiring and onboarding of new staff.
  • Craft and support facilitation of twice-yearly performance evaluation conversations.
  • Closely monitor and address staff professionalism—ensuring deadlines, surveys, data and assessment and other professional responsibilities are met and completed with quality and fidelity.
