Position: School Monitor-Temporary, Summer [2 Positions]
Location: Yorktown Heights

School Monitor

On school grounds, school monitors will be required to interact and supervise activities of the general public - including parents, staff and school-aged children, including those with behavioral and emotional issues - and provide appropriate interventions as required. Minimum qualifications include prior work experience interacting with the general public; experience overseeing and monitoring the behaviors of school aged children; experience with crisis intervention preferred.

Primary activities include greeting and screening campus visitors and notifying appropriate departments of their arrival, issuing passes, guiding traffic during school bus arrival and departure times, guiding students and staff across campus roadways/driveways, interacting with school aged children with patience and tact, monitoring and ensuring students are safe and orderly while on school property and assisting in their removal when necessary, monitoring social interactions and providing prevention and intervention with altercations or potential altercations, assisting with tracking students on campus who do not report to class, providing representation for students with issues that may arise and warrant the attention of administration, and handling miscellaneous minor clerical duties, i.e. copying, filing and completing passes/documents.

Perform other related duties as assigned. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form, work with a diverse group of individuals, maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others, establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students with special needs, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work, and report work orally and in writing to supervisor as required.

In accordance with the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) legislation, Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, candidates for appointment in school districts must obtain clearance for employment from the State Education Department prior to employment based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check.
