Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Museum Educator responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
  • Creating age‑appropriate lesson plans for rotating exhibitions for K‑12 groups.
  • Researching new content as needed in relation to rotating exhibitions.
  • Utilizing inquiry‑base techniques to engage students from diverse backgrounds on gallery tours.
  • Reporting to Japan Society staff before and after tours to provide updates and communicate important details or incidents.
  • Supervising student groups and leading groups safely through a gallery space.
  • Participating in paid information sessions regarding seasonal exhibition contents. (Fall & Spring)
  • Coordinating with Japan Society staff for supplement materials including pictures and photographs, and any other materials needed for tour enrichment.
Salary

All‑inclusive fee in the amount of $100 per tour. Fee of $25 per hour will be paid for exhibition information session.

Requirements
  • Background in Education, Art Education or related field.
  • Teaching experience with K‑12 students in an informal learning environment.
  • Excellent communications skills in English.
  • Flexible and adaptable to unexpected circumstances.
  • Available for on‑call basis during weekdays.
  • Experience teaching special needs students a plus.
  • Knowledge of Japanese culture and art a plus.
