Currently hiring knowledgeable, reliable, and compassionate instructors for our Summer STEAM Camp! Our educational summer camp runs for July and August 2024. In addition to a STEAM theme, students will be working on enhancing Reading, Writing, and Math skills to prepare for the next school year. Opportunity to work in August and the next school year if desired.
Job brief: We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced PreK-2 teacher/tutor who is committed to fostering and facilitating the intellectual and social development of the students for our summer camp. To teach with patience and creativity in Math and ELA, you will implement a full educational teaching plan already developed for each student and use activities and instructional methods to motivate children and improve their academic skill set.
The ideal candidate will be passionate about the job with an ability to reach out to the students and create a relationship of mutual trust. The goal is to help cultivate the students’ interest in education and to be their dedicated ally in the entire process of learning and development.
- Develop students’ phonological awareness, blending capabilities (e.g. phonics), and numeracy skills to build a strong reading and math foundation along with socio-emotional skills.
- Differentiate lessons to meet students needs.
- Follow a complete teaching plan and organize learning materials and resources.
- Actively listen and check for student understanding and adjust communication content and style to meet diverse needs.
- Use a variety of activities and instructional methods (songs, stories, media, structured games, art, etc.) to motivate and stimulate children s abilities.
- Build immediate rapport with students and invite participation, making students feel their contributions are valued.
- Maintain open communication with parents and provide appropriate feedback on students’ progress.
- Assess student performance and progress to ensure mastery of skills; weekly progress reports will be completed and shared with parents.
- Work closely with the center s director and staff; attend Teacher Team Meetings when announced.
- Follow and comply with teaching standards and safety regulations.
- Maintain great classroom management to keep sessions orderly.
- Ensure a clean and well-organized classroom environment by preparing materials, keeping desks tidy, cleaning after lunch, and taking out the trash daily.
- Monitor students during lunch and park time.
- Arrive by 8:30 am.
- Communicates effectively; delivers information clearly and concisely; actively listens for understanding.
- Adjusts communication to meet diverse student needs; provides constructive student feedback.
- Communicates well with colleagues; highly energetic and enthusiastic.
- Builds immediate rapport with students; fosters a positive and motivating environment; invites participation.
- Understands group dynamics and reacts effectively; makes learning enjoyable.
- Organizes and manages multiple responsibilities; sets high standards.
- Manages the learning environment with a student-centered focus; maintains up-to-date knowledge in subjects.
- Proven working experience as a PreK, Kindergarten, 1st-grade, and/or 2nd-grade teacher or assistant.
- Excellent knowledge of child development and current education theories and practices.
- Highly skilled, motivated, versatile, dependable, and dynamic with strong communication skills.
- Friendly, patient, and sensitive to the needs of a diverse student population.
- Ability to work independently and multi-task.
- Experience with student IEPs is preferred but not required.
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s Degree in Childhood, Early-Childhood Education, or related field.
- A teacher license/certification is not required, but having one or being in the process of attainment is a plus.
- Current college students pursuing degrees in education are encouraged to apply.
- Internship/volunteer work available for the right candidates.
- CPR/First-Aid certification is highly preferred but not required.
- Ability to continue teaching in the Fall of 2023 and Spring of 2024 is highly preferred but not required.
