Our Bilingual High School Licensed Social Worker or Counselor

Our High School at School in the Square opened its doors in Fall 2024 where we began creating opportunities and access for our students that go beyond the core content areas. Our high school community provides students with educators who have great content expertise and passion for their content, while empowering them to have the autonomy and resources to get the job done in the most creative, effective, and fulfilling way possible.

We are looking for a dedicated, mission‑aligned bilingual licensed Social Worker or School Counselor who is deeply committed to supporting the academic, social‑emotional, and postsecondary success of our students. Reporting to the Principal and working closely with our School Leadership Team (SLT), this individual will play a critical role in developing a comprehensive counseling program that integrates SEL, academic planning, and family partnership.

  • A strong therapeutic skillset to provide holistic interventions to high school students in individual, group, and class modalities.
  • An expert in current research and trends in school counseling and guidance, and college and career readiness.
  • Familiar with restorative practices, a strong believer in anti‑racism education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, trauma‑informed practices.
  • Experienced in supporting students navigating identity, immigration‑related stressors, and family dynamics.
  • Knowledgeable in college and career readiness, including graduation requirements, postsecondary planning, and financial aid processes.
  • Skilled in leading workshops, classes, and activities for families and professional development for staff.
  • A strategic, solutions‑focused thinker with strong communication, recording and planning skills.
  • A systems thinker who uses data to monitor student progress, adjust interventions, and improve outcomes.
  • A strong relationship builder who supports families and children in both academic and non‑instructional situations, and develops connections with teachers to improve student academic achievement and build SEL skills and learning in the classroom.
  • A graduate of a Master’s Degree in Social Work or Counseling, possessing a valid social worker or counselor licensure by the State of New York.
  • Experienced as a full‑time social worker with a minimum of two years with high school‑aged students. Experience in a charter school with a diverse student population.
  • Able to communicate fluently in English and Spanish.
