Job DescriptionThe Assistant Director of Academic and Career Advising reports to the Director of First Year Advising and provides strategic leadership and supervision of a team of academic and career advisors. The role designs, develops, delivers workshops, oversees academic and career programming, and works collaboratively with campus partners to support student success.
Education and Experience- Master’s degree and experience in a high‑level support or management role in higher education.
- At least two years of academic advising experience.
- Experience in assessment, program reviews, and working under time pressures.
- Expert in academic counseling methods and career modeling.
- Ability to interpret and communicate assessment results.
- Strong interpersonal, planning, teamwork, and organizational skills.
- Proficient in advising policy development and process improvement.
- Effective communication with diverse populations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Manage office‑delivered programming and advising for students assigned to the advisory team.
- Coordinate with the Director of Pre‑Health Advising to provide targeted programming for pre‑health first‑year students.
- Supervise an advising team, provide performance feedback, and oversee advising policies and procedures.
- Offer academic and career advising through one‑on‑one and group sessions, support degree audits, and maintain student records.
- Escalate student cases as needed and collaborate with faculty and staff across the university.
- Partner with Alumni and Employer Relations to support student career outcomes.
- Represent the Department in meetings and analysis of early‑warning and at‑risk student data to improve retention.
