Lower School Learning Support Teacher

Position Summary

The Abraham Joshua Heschel School is seeking a one year full time lower school learning support teacher (Grades 1-5) for the 2026-27 school year.

• Graduate degree in literacy/reading, learning disabilities, or speech and language.
• At least 3 years of school-based experience.
• Training in Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, PAF, or similar program.
• Experience with The Writing Revolution.
• Experience with behavioral support preferred.
• Experience administering a variety of assessments to track and support student growth.
• At least three years school-based teaching experience as a learning specialist or SLP with a focus on attaining early literacy skills.
• Strong knowledge in learning differences, especially dyslexia, dysgraphia, and ADHD.

• Teaching small reading groups as requested, focusing on decoding, comprehension, and writing.
• Providing push-in support/team teaching during ELA.
• Collaborating with teachers and providing guidance for supporting a range of learners, including modifying curriculum and implementing supportive strategies in the classroom.
• Partnering with families and outside specialists regarding the needs and progress of students.
• Participating in parent conferences and writing individual progress reports.
• Daily assignments determined by the school based on instructional and coverage needs.

Salary range is $65,000 - $95,000, depending on years of experience.
