Overview

The Quad Preparatory School is seeking a Lower School Special Education Head Teacher (grades K-5) for the 2026-27 school year. Anticipated opening. Classification:
Exempt.

Reports to:

Lower School Co-Head, Academic. Annual Salary Range: $61,000-$110,000 (salary offered will be commensurate with experience and skills).

What You’ll Do

The Quad Preparatory School is looking for special education head teachers (grades K-5) in the 2026-27 school year. Teachers will provide academic instruction and social-emotional support to students in collaboration with clinicians. They should be comfortable teaching language arts, mathematics, and social studies to grades K-5. Candidates with experience supporting students who require behavioral support and a structured environment are encouraged to apply.

Teachers may receive mentorship, coaching, and support from clinicians and academic administrators. A benefit of this position is the professional development gained from working with twice-exceptional youth and mentorship from veteran teachers, administrators, and clinicians.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and implement high-quality, engaging lessons differentiated to meet students’ learning needs.
  • Develop individualized educational plans for each student and maintain a consistent structure and routine.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and classroom procedures and routines.
  • Collaborate with the clinical team to develop and implement behavioral plans for each student.
  • Regularly assess students and curriculum; communicate assessment results to parents.
  • Support the school's progressive and personalized education philosophy for twice-exceptional children.
  • Collaborate with psychosocial staff to plan and implement an integrated program for executive functioning within the academic curriculum.
  • Map and evaluate curriculum; create and maintain an orderly, aesthetically conducive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records and portfolios of student work to illustrate progress and achievement.
  • Provide scaffolding, modeling, and resources to empower students and maintain high expectations for success.
  • Collaborate with academic and psychosocial staff to plan cross-curricular, inquiry-based projects.
  • Communicate with parents/guardians about academic and social-emotional progress via conferences, reports, calls, and emails.
  • Mentor and delegate tasks to the associate teacher in collaboration with the other head teacher.
  • Follow the professional code and school policies to promote the mission of the school.
  • Utilize Google Suite (Drive, Docs, Sheets).
  • Attend all required faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events (e.g., open houses, Curriculum Night, Carnivale).
Qualifications
  • Required Education and Experience
    • Bachelor’s degree in elementary education, special education, or a related field.
    • Minimum one year paid experience teaching children in grades K-5 as a full-time head teacher.
  • Preferred Education and Experience
    • At least three years experience as a full-time Special Education head teacher.
    • Master’s degree in Special Education or related field.
    • Special education training including gifted education, twice-exceptional youth, and behavioral management.
    • Special education teaching credential.
    • Experience teaching twice-exceptional youth.
    • CPI training.
Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job operates in a school setting. The school is located on the 4th floor with an elevator. Regular walking to various locations around the school and occasional travel to the Upper School campus approximately two blocks away is required. The position involves talking, listening, standing, walking, climbing stairs, and may require lifting/moving items under 20 pounds. Full-time exempt position. The school operates eight hours a day; staff work ten months per year (late August to late June). Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required, with typical hours from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday–Friday.
