Formation Leaders will work closely with the Youth Minister to support all faith formation programming for children and youth at Trinity Church NYC. This position will be asked to support multiple Faith Formation programs for children and youth, including Sunday School classes for children and teens, Youth Group, retreats, pilgrimages, administrative support, and other congregational events. Additionally, Formation Leaders may be asked to support the Trinity Youth After school based on availability.
In all roles, they will be responsible for ensuring proper documentation, managing attendance, and maintaining safety standards. This position will include work on Sundays and 3‑4 additional shifts throughout the week.
The pay rate for this position is $30 an hour.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Ensure health, safety, and wellbeing of Trinity Children and Youth members by providing close supervision of programs.
- Support and facilitate learning opportunities in a safe and supportive environment for children and youth programs in all Trinity spaces and while traveling.
- Support programs and advocacy opportunities that nurture critical thinking skills.
- Instruct and mentor children and youth.
- Follow all check‑in and check‑out protocols.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of Trinity Church’s policies for the safety of Children and Youth.
- Work with Children, Youth, and Family staff to establish a schedule, that may change based on programmatic needs.
- Provide administrative support for Children Youth and Family programming as needed, which may include classroom set up, inventorying and organizing supplies, inputting data.
- Maintain current certifications for child and youth safety, health, and compliance per Trinity Church’s guidelines and policies.
- Adhere to best practices for confidentiality.
- Pursue a professional development plan in consultation with and with support from Children Youth and Family staff.
- Work with Priest and Director, Youth Minister, and the Program Manager, children, to teach and implement provided faith formation curriculum in Sunday School classes for children and youth.
- Provide both direct instruction and classroom support, as needed.
- Oversee classroom set up and breakdown before and after each class.
- Maintain supply lists and assist in snack distribution.
- Provide hands on childcare and supervision which may include feeding, dressing, and toileting.
- Maintain and support classroom policies and best practices.
- When scheduled, work with the Youth Minister to support Youth Group meetings on Wednesday evenings.
- Assist in set up and breakdown for meals and activities.
- Provide hands on relational support.
- Model rigorous participation in all discussions, games, activities, and worship opportunities.
- When applicable, provide direct instruction or guidance.
- When scheduled, support Children Youth and Family staff on retreats and pilgrimages.
- This may include taking attendance, supervising or leading activities or classes, supervising a small group, facilitating community formation among participants.
- When scheduled, provide programmatic, supervisory, and administrative support for Trinity Youth After school activities, which meet Monday – Fridays.
- Familiar with trauma‑informed care, mental health first aid, and de‑escalation.
- Familiar with and comfortable talking about the Episcopal Church.
- Good customer service and hospitality skills.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Comfortable working with children and youth to create a welcoming environment for all ages and backgrounds.
- Demonstrated commitment to young people and their families.
- Collaborative and self‑motivated; able to work in a variety of groups and circumstances.
- Undergraduate Degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience required.
- A least 3 years of experience in education, children and youth faith formation, human services, social work, or community outreach.
- Experience working with New York City children and youth from a variety of backgrounds in formal and informal settings.
- Experience administering programs with children and youth in community, church, or educational settings.
