SCHEDULE:
Monday – Friday, (25 hours a week)
JOB SUMMARY:
As part of our Youth Services Department’s vision, all Youth Services staff will assist in promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in all young people at all our Grand Street Settlement sites. The Activity Specialist plays a vital role in engaging youth through structured projects that reflect their interests and the school community. This position ensures that participants develop essential hard skills, explore career pathways, and complete a meaningful project as part of the Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP).
EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS
High School Diploma required;
College Degree preferred
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a relevant field
Must have experience working with and devising curricula around specialization
Ideal candidate has previous experience with classroom instruction and/or facilitating lessons in specialized fields
Candidates must be very responsible and organized and demonstrate positive communication skills.
Ideal candidate is personable, energetic, and enthusiastic.
Candidates must be able to communicate effectively with all students while always remaining professional and be able to motivate the students while setting an example in all areas, including timeliness, attendance, and most importantly, professionalism.
Must demonstrate timeliness, attendance, and most importantly, professionalism.
Candidate must successfully complete the following: NYCDOE Fingerprinting Screening;
New York State Clearance Review Background Check; three (3) Reference Checks;
Physical with updated TB Test (Fees may apply)
A valid CPR/AED Pro certification through a recognized accrediting body is preferred.
A valid First Aid/RTE certification through a recognized accrediting body is preferred.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESMust complete NYS OCFS Mandated Reporter and Foundations in Health and Safety trainings.
Facilitate orientation/education workshops for participants with a structured curriculum.
Create and facilitate project-based lessons and curriculum with the assistance of the Youth Employment Coordinator.
Strong organizational, communication, and mentorship skills.
Responsible for supervising all participants during activities in the classroom and off-site activities.
Responsible for maintaining classroom space in an organized, socially distanced, and clean fashion.
Responsible for documenting attendance, incidents, and injuries accurately and in a timely fashion.
Chaperone youth group during outdoor activities, project-based activities, and other field activities.
Assist with all aspects of programming (i.e., following the organization's mission, supervising all youth, working collectively, and communicating with all staff).
Attend all required department/agency meetings and/or trainings.
Implement and facilitate projects and recreational activities for participants.
Take initiative to assist program participants and staff as needed.
Maintain program supplies and ensure proper use of all supplies.
Help enforce all rules and regulations and codes of conduct.
Other duties as assigned.
