Job SummaryThe goal of the Supplemental Instruction (SI) program is to support student success through structured opportunities for interactive group learning led by Learning Fellows, near-peers who can model success strategies. SI activities support both content learning as well as improvement of study skills and development of community. SI provides students with additional time outside of the traditional class to process material and practice skills in a low-pressure environment.
In addition, it supports the development of an inclusive community of collaborative learners.

- Attending all pre-semester training sessions
- Attending all training sessions throughout the semester
- Committing to improving their skills through regular observation and feedback from the Manager and/or senior members of the team
- Being on-time and prepared to lead the weekly SI Session
- Recording attendance and evaluating participation of students
- Transcribing attendance and participation to recording system
- Leading students through active learning activities related to course content
- Sharing study skills and other best practices for success in the course
- Fostering an environment of inclusion and community
- Demonstrating a professional, courteous, and respectful attitude in dealing with students and co-facilitator
- Communicating weekly with the instructor including summarizing salient points from the recitation session
- Reviewing course related materials prior to the session
- Attending lectures to prepare for session
- Complying with policies and procedures of the Department of Natural Sciences and the College including but not limited to the College’s Code of Conduct.
- Accurately logging in work hours on Banner timesheets in Mercy Connect and submitting them on time.
- Communicating with the Manager about any issues that may arise in sessions
- Communicating weekly (or more) with the co-facilitator to plan SI sessions
- Dividing duties during the session (e.g. attendance, participation, leading activities)
- Be a current student at Mercy University (undergraduate or graduate)
- Have successfully completed the course for which they are leading with a grade of B or better within the past 5 years
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Ability to maintain an appropriate degree of confidentiality
- Possession of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and Microsoft Teams
- Have a willingness to learn and develop skills
- Have an ability to communicate effectively with students/faculty/manager
- Be approachable, collaborative and inclusive
- Be responsive to various communication channels
- Demonstrate good study skills and a professional demeanor
- Have a strong desire and commitment to helping students
