Position Overview
The Child Care Business Specialist serves as a member of the Family Development Team to deliver programming and assist with the evaluation, planning and management of Family Development programs to childcare providers in Herkimer, Madison, and Oneida Counties. The Business Specialist helps build the supply of quality childcare in the three counties by offering technical assistance, training, and coaching to childcare providers.
The educator delivers established educational programs on OCFS guidelines, engaged learning environments, program organization and routine, parent and provider communication, developmentally appropriate practice, program development, business practices, professionalism and responsibility. The position also involves confidential data entry of participant information and the provision of information regarding other Extension programs, community agencies, and services as needed.
- Program Delivery – 70%:
Utilize existing program materials and educational framework to provide education on quality early care and education and other program topics. - Program Evaluation – 5%:
Collect and analyze evaluation data, assist the supervisor with program improvement recommendations, and communicate findings to constituents. - Direction – 5%:
Provide input in planning educational programs, assist in initiating professional relationships with partner agencies, and help plan Family Development programs and events. - Management – 5%:
Provide programmatic guidance to volunteers and co‑workers, resolve conflicts, and apply appropriate policies and procedures. - Coordination/Operation – 10%:
Maintain records of program participants, complete required reports and paperwork, transport materials to childcare provider sites, coordinate activities, and prepare reports for funders and advisory committees. - Professional Improvement & Other Duties – 5%:
Develop a professional development plan, participate in orientations and trainings, pursue personal growth, support Cooperative Extension marketing and reporting, and maintain punctual attendance. - Health and Safety:
Apply all applicable regulations and policies to maintain a safe working environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or Associate degree and years of transferable experience.
- At least one year of related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, teach, and evaluate educational programs through a variety of delivery methods.
- Ability to plan and organize personal work responsibilities according to priorities set with a supervisor.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to various audiences and communicate effectively orally, in writing, and visually.
- Proficiency or ability to learn to use Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Publisher, Excel) and the internet.
- Ability to work as a team member with staff.
- Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
- Ability to meet acceptable background check standards.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate.
- Familiarity with NY State Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS) childcare regulations.
- Experience in a licensed/registered childcare program.
