About the Fashion Institute of Technology:

The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), an internationally renowned college of art and design, business and technology, of the State University of New York, invites applications for a part‑time, non‑credit Creative Industries instructor in the Center for Continuing and Professional Studies.

FIT has been a leader in career education in art, design, business, and technology for nearly 70 years. With a curriculum that blends hands‑on experience, classroom study, and liberal arts, FIT offers programs that prepare students for professional success. The FIT Center for Continuing and Professional Studies (CCPS) offers more than 80 dynamic courses across art and design, fashion and business technology, and applied and visual arts.

We are seeking passionate industry professionals and educators who share expertise and inspire adult learners. Our students range from emerging creatives to seasoned professionals and lifelong learners.

CCPS Non‑Credit Instructors play a pivotal role in advancing FIT's mission by delivering career‑focused instruction to adult learners (18+, including seniors). Courses may be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekends.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver engaging, high‑quality instruction aligned with approved CCPS course objectives.
  • Prepare instructional materials, assignments, and assessments that support learning outcomes.
  • Evaluate student performance and provide timely, constructive feedback.
  • Foster a safe, respectful, inclusive, and engaging learning environment for adult learners.
  • Utilize instructional technologies including Brightspace LMS, Google Workspace, Web Ex Training, Microsoft Word, Adobe Creative Suite, and related tools.
  • Effectively deliver instruction across in‑person, remote, and hybrid formats.
  • Serve as a professional representative and ambassador of CCPS and FIT.

We seek candidates who have experience and expertise in the following areas:

  • Costume Design
  • Fashion Events
  • Fashion Styling
  • Image Consulting
  • Wardrobe Technician

Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required; relevant and specific certifications will be considered.
  • 5 years of professional experience in a relevant field and/or an established creative or design practice.
  • Commitment to teaching adult learners (18+, including seniors).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Experience in instruction, course development, and curriculum design.
  • Teaching experience in a college, museum, nonprofit, corporate training, or comparable setting.
Additional Information

This is a part‑time non‑credit instructor position.

Appointment to the part‑time non‑credit instructor pool does not guarantee consistent teaching assignments; workload may vary by non‑credit term.

Physical Requirements

This position requires constant reading and comprehension, occasional calculations, constant verbal communication, frequent analysis, and constant writing. Working conditions will be in a classroom, lab, or office space. The physical requirement includes occasional sitting, constant standing, occasional bending, frequent walking, and occasional lifting 10 lbs. or less.
