Graduate Residential Coordinator

Position Overview

The Graduate Residential Coordinator supports the Assistant Director in the operation of a residential area on campus. A Graduate Residential Coordinator (GRC) co-supervises Resident Assistants (RAs) while supporting the Office of Residential Education in all campus-wide projects, such as Housing Selection, Student Staff Selection, Student Staff Training, and other projects as assigned. Supporting those projects includes participation in departmental committees such as Development, Training, and Recognition (including RA Training), Housing Operations (including Health and Safety Inspections), or Staff Selection.

Graduate Residential Coordinators serve as a resource and support related to academic, personal, and social concerns while also providing ongoing feedback to their direct supervises to aid in their professional and personal development.

GRCs serve as graduate assistants in the Division of Campus Life and participate in campus-wide events, planning, and programming. In doing so, GRCs should be available for evening and weekend responsibilities, including but not limited to Staff Development, Weekend Programming, Divisional Requirements, and campus-wide programs. Additionally, the Graduate Residential Coordinators maintain responsibility in many functions of housing and residential life, including, but not limited to, programming, duty and crisis response (serving as a mandated reporter for violations of the Student Code of Conduct and Title IX), student conduct (serving as a Level 1 hearing officer for alleged violations), student development, and facilities management.

Throughout the year, GRCs will represent the department at various Wagner College events, including but not limited to:
Wagner Weekend (Homecoming), Songfest, Wagner Stock, and Commencement. The Graduate Residential Coordinator is supervised by the Assistant Director of Residential Education.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain 29 weekly office hours (evening hours for meetings and programs included) and report to direct supervisor(s). Office hours should be scheduled Monday through Friday, 9 am to 4 pm, unless otherwise noted.
  • Manage an assigned residential facility of undergraduate and/or graduate students ranging from 125 to 800 students.
  • Manage an assigned departmental function;
    First Year Experience, Staff Development, Programming & Community Development, or Operations
  • Co-supervise a Resident Assistant staff ranging from 4-19 paraprofessionals on community development planning, programming, and personal development.
  • Take part in campus on-call duty rotation in response to emergency and crisis situations
  • Manage building opening and closing procedures
  • Attend regularly scheduled meetings, including in-area staff meetings, professional staff meetings, committee meetings, and divisional meetings.
  • Participate in Graduate Assistant training for the Division of Campus Life in summer/fall – dates TBD.
  • Participate in all Residential Education professional and student staff trainings, in-halls, and department-wide operations (Orientation Leader and Resident Assistant selection, Professional staff selection, housing selection, etc).Support divisional and institution-wide events.

Departmental Function Areas

Each GRC is assigned one of the following departmental function areas in addition to their building assignments. These areas are subject to change based on the needs of the department. Year-to-year responsibilities are also subject to change.

  • Area A:
    First Year Experience
    - This GRC is meant to focus on all aspects of the First Year Experience on campus and within Harborview Hall. Significant emphasis on the First Forty Programming with the Head Resident Assistant of Staff & Community Development, as well as other collaborations with Student Engagement and Activities, Community Leaders, etc.
  • Area B:
    Housing Operations
    - The GRC in this role will serve as a member of the Housing Operations Committee and oversee operational tasks while also working closely with the Head Resident Assistant of Operations & Logistics. These tasks include, but are not limited to, opening/closing procedures, health and safety inspections, room condition reports (RCRs), key agreement forms, guest request forms, Office Shifts, Duty Scheduling, and more.
  • Area C:
    Returning Seahawk Programs
    - This GRC has oversight of Returning Seahawks (RSP) Programming. These programs are geared toward non-first-year or senior students who need a unique level of support while staying engaged in the campus community. They will serve as a member of the Development, Training, & Recognition Committee. They will work closely with the Head Resident Assistant of Staff and Community Development as well.
