Position: Musical Theater Teacher [Temporary Parental Leave Replacement]
Location: New York

About the Role

Reporting to the Dean of Student Life, the Musical Theater Teacher will build meaningful relationships with students, design and implement a NYS Learning Standards‑aligned curriculum, and collaborate with grade teams to analyze data and drive instruction. This role focuses on improving student outcomes, fostering a positive school culture, and leading instruction in the musical theater discipline.

Responsibilities
  • Create and foster a culture where all students can achieve at high levels.
  • Design and implement NYS Learning Standards‑aligned curriculum through backwards lesson planning and follow school‑wide protocols for developing and documenting syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and rubrics.
  • Actively participate in all meetings, collaborative planning, and professional development, including an annual summer institute.
  • Track, monitor, and assume responsibility for the academic progress of students.
  • Analyze data and trends, both in class and on assignments, to inform instruction.
  • Set and maintain high expectations by building meaningful relationships.
  • Work with the Student Culture Team to create individual behavior plans for students, as needed.
  • Build a warm and inclusive classroom environment and abide by school‑wide practices for classroom management and individual behavior plans.
  • Collaborate with the grade team to analyze data, revise practices, norm on team‑wide initiatives, and discuss individual scholars with a solutions‑oriented mindset.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships and regularly communicate scholars’ progress toward goals with families.
  • Lead workshops, clubs, activities, and/or teams directly related to your subject area as part of the After School Program.
  • Perform additional duties related to the running of the school as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • New York State certification in the subject area preferred.
  • At least two years of teaching experience with a record of improving student achievement, strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the aligned content area.
  • Desire to make a difference in the lives of students, families, and community.
  • Ability to receive and implement feedback.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with various audiences.
  • Commitment to working with diverse populations of families and students.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Strong belief in DREAM’s mission and values, with a desire to contribute to student, family, and community success.
Employment Details
  • Temporary position to fill a parental leave; expected length of employment is from October 19, 2026 to March 13, 2027.
  • Hours:

    9:00 am – 6:00 pm, five days a week, with shifted hours to accommodate workshops, clubs, and activities in the After School Program.
  • Approximately 10 critical days per year where start time may be 7:00 am to support school operations.
  • Salary range for incoming teachers is $75,000 – $100,000 per year. As a temporary position, the salary will be prorated for the length of employment.
  • Additional compensation may be added for teachers with a Master’s degree and NYS Special Education certifications.
  • Teachers are eligible for annual salary increases based on tenure and performance; salaries for teachers who continue at DREAM can exceed the incoming teacher band.
