Overview
The Dean of SEL and Community will lead DREAM’s social-emotional learning program at a middle school and cultivate a positive culture for the school community, staff, families, and students.
Responsibilities Management and Leadership- Serve as a member of the School Leadership Team
- Supervise and coach the Family Social Worker to ensure strong family support systems and community partnership
- Supervise and coach SEL Specialist(s) to deliver high-quality Tier 1 and Tier 2 SEL services to a caseload of students
- Provide coaching and professional development for school staff to improve SEL programming execution (e.g., observations, whole-group PD)
- Lead school-based community outreach initiatives, including events, attendance support, and family case management
- Support the operation of DREAM Family Action Councils and encourage family participation in school policies
- Collaborate with families to maintain consistent and positive partnerships
- Design and lead positive culture initiatives and systems to build community among staff, families, and students (e.g., community gatherings, staff SEL, student incentive systems)
- Lead SEL curriculum execution in Advisory, Homeroom, and intervention sessions to advance student socio‑emotional development
- Design lesson plans aligned with DREAM’s network SEL vision for teachers and specialists
- Collaborate with Academic Deans to use student achievement data to customize and improve instruction
- Manage SEL data systems: administration, collection, analysis, continuous improvement, and action planning
- Design and implement student attendance and proactive behavior systems in partnership with the Principal and Deans of Culture and Student Support
- Conduct walkthroughs, review student life data, collaborate with leadership team members, and enact changes to improve student culture outcomes
- Analyze and respond to RTI dashboard data to ensure all students needing SEL support receive appropriate interventions
- Create a calendar of family support and cultural celebration events (e.g., Black History Month, college trips, family orientation)
- Co‑create and supervise school-based policies and procedures for community gatherings, lunch norms, staff culture, adult SEL, and student incentive systems
- Perform additional duties related to school operation as assigned
- Bachelor’s degree required (education, social work, youth development, or related field); advanced degree preferred
- 5+ years of experience engaging youth, families, and teachers
- 2+ years in a management role overseeing full-time teams
- Proven experience in people management and coaching professional development (large, small, and one‑on‑one settings)
- Strong track record of success and achievement orientation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Outstanding organizational skills and impeccable follow‑through
- Strong critical thinking and problem‑solving abilities
- A desire to impact students, families, and the community
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
- Self‑starter with innovative and creative thinking
