Job Description

The Crisis Intervener provides crisis intervention and behavior support strategies for student, collaborates with staff to implement behavioral goals, documents incidents and progress, participates in relevant meetings, and assists with classroom and student needs as assigned.

Typical Duties
  • Provide crisis intervention for students.
  • Positively interact with students and staff consistently.
  • Use verbal and non-verbal communication skills and behavior support techniques effectively to help manage aggressive behavior and defuse students in crisis.
  • Work collaboratively with team members to support all students in program assignments effectively, provide progress notes, and complete incident reports.
  • Train staff on techniques to support student behaviors.
  • Attend team meetings when necessary, including for ICSPs and BIPs.
  • Implements classroom and behavioral goals as determined by the multi-disciplinary instructional team.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Administration, ie. supporting with classroom and student needs.
Special Skills & Aptitudes

Candidates must be flexible, patient, physically/emotionally able to handle confrontational situations with students without personalizing these events. The candidates will also need to be resilient to dealing with sudden, explosive crises that may cause deviations from work plans and schedules.

Job Qualifications

(A) Graduation with a Bachelor's degree, plus one (1) year paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience involving the supervision, counseling, or instruction of students in a school facility, institution, or agency devoted to the care, education, rehabilitation, or restorative behavior intervention management of adolescents or children; OR, (B) Graduation with an Associate's degree or completion of sixty (60) credit hours, plus two (2) years paid full-time or its part-time equivalent experience involving the supervision, counseling, or instruction of students in a school facility, institution, or agency devoted to the care, education, rehabilitation, or restorative behavior intervention management of adolescents or children;

OR, (C) An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of (A) and (B) above.
