Hours:
Temporary, part-time position. Up to 14-16 hours per week from July 21 to November 22, including monthly Monday meetings from 1 to 4 pm. Additional days and hours from Tuesdays to Sundays, approximately 8 am to 4 pm, contingent on market schedules

On-site at farmers’ markets, farm stands, or Health Centers in NYC
Grant End Date: 6/30/2027
Salary: $24 per hour (temporary, part-time position hired through a staffing agency)
The Role
Bilingual Educators, fluent in English/Spanish, will join a team of three or more to assist with the preparation and delivery of bilingual nutrition and cooking workshops at farmers markets, farm stands, and Health Centers from August to November 2026.
Responsibilities- Participate in a required, paid 5-day training in July 2026 (7/21, 7/22, 7/24, 7/27, and 7/28)
- Participate in required monthly Monday afternoon staff meetings at the Health Department office in Long Island City, Queens
- Collaborate with a team of three or more at each workshop site:
Nutrition Educator, Culinary Educator, and Bilingual Educator - Orally interpret in-person nutrition education workshops and cooking demonstrations from English to Spanish, and translate some written signage and educational messaging
- Assist the Nutrition Educator with the preparation and implementation of nutrition education sessions and survey distribution and completion
- Assist the Culinary Educator with food preparation tasks between workshops
- Actively participate in the proper set-up and breakdown of the tent, cooking equipment, and educational materials
- Follow the curriculum and maintain fidelity of programming
- Participate in marketing and promotion of programming at farms and health centers to achieve desired participation levels
- Maintain all safety protocols at workshop sites
- Encourage environmentally sustainable practices at workshop sites
- Other duties as assigned to support the overall goals and mission of the department/ organization.
- Oral fluency in English & Spanish
- Dynamic personality with excellent presentation, interpersonal, and communications skills
- Ability to work in multicultural settings with racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse populations
- Commitment to teamwork and effective communication practices
- Willing and able to stand for long periods of time and work outside in inclement weather conditions
- Willing and able to regularly lift and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds
- Ability to write in Spanish and translate written materials from English to Spanish
- Experience interpreting information orally from English to Spanish
- Experience working as part of a team
- Understanding of regional food systems, food security issues, and underlying causes of health inequities in NYC communities
- Strong preference to those with knowledge about and interest in nutrition and community food security issues in NYC
- Willing and able to stand for long periods of time and work outside in inclement weather conditions
- Willing and able to regularly lift and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds
- Position contingent upon final confirmation of funding (anticipated by June 30)
- Must be authorized to work in the United States
- Position will be hired through a staffing agency
This is not a remote job. Most responsibilities require on-site or in-office work.
