Shift Supervisor Overview
Shift Supervisor is accountable for the physical/emotional safety of the environment while on shift. They lead the staff/resident teams, ensure that the behavior management specialist team is positioned optimally to support youth in each educational component, and oversee the safety and movement of the resident/staff team to and from school.
This full‑time, 40‑hour‑per‑week position is based in Rockaway and is in–person. From time to time it requires work outside of normally scheduled hours.
Responsibilities- Ensure the full engagement of all residents in each educational component on a daily basis.
- Conduct pat frisk twice daily to minimize contraband introduction into the unit.
- Complete all tasks prior to the team’s departure, including incident reports, daily log, and log book.
- Debrief incoming shift members each day without fail.
- Ensure timely arrival of residents to and from school, monitoring driving routes and speed as applicable.
- Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning throughout the school day.
- Divide youth into small clusters supported by all school youth counselors during class time and complete daily index cards for documentation.
- Support residents in completing all daily school/other assignments, and help create a consistent study routine during and after school.
- Strategically position and supervise staff and residents in each classroom during school hours.
- Maintain all relevant certifications, including a clean/valid driver’s license and TCI certification.
- Perform any and all tasks as assigned by program leadership.
- Associate’s degree in human services or related field and a minimum of 1 year relevant experience with vulnerable youth and families, or high school diploma with 2 years of relevant experience.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Proficient in the ITM approach/standards and TCI training specific to the program.
- Experience managing behavior with evidence‑based or other therapeutic approaches; strong knowledge of programming and protocol.
- Mature, responsible, and effective communicator with proven ability to manage both upward and downward.
- High level of integrity and independent thinker and doer.
- Assumes responsibility for staff and residents during shift.
- Leads by example.
This position is based in Rockaway but may require travel to other locations as needed.
