Job Title
To provide instructional and student support for morning ESOL and High School Equivalency (HSE) classrooms, based on daily attendance and program needs.
This includes assisting teachers, supporting individual learners, and providing classroom coverage when necessary.
SchedulePart Time / Per Diem Monday-Thursday Morning hours; schedule varies based on classroom needs.
Typical DutiesProvide instructional support in ESOL and HSE classrooms during morning sessions, adjusting location based on daily attendance and student needs. Assist teachers by delivering differentiated instruction in reading, writing, math, listening, and speaking. Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to reinforce lessons, support skill development, and address individual learning goals. Build positive, supportive relationships with students to encourage attendance, engagement, and persistence.
Support classroom operations by preparing materials, making copies, organizing resources, and assisting with classroom setup. Provide classroom coverage or substitute instruction in the event of teacher absence. Assist with monitoring and documenting student attendance. Assist students with technology used in instruction, including online learning platforms and assessments. Maintain all safety standards as mandated by BOCES 2 and the hosting organization.
Participate in required professional development (minimum 14 hours per year). Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of BOCES 2.
Experience:
Supporting English language learners High school equivalency instruction or GED preparation Special Education or supporting students with diverse learning needs Working with adult learners in ESOL and/or High School Equivalency settings OR K-12 setting Educational: NYS K12 or Adult Education Certification Bachelor's degree in education OR commensurate experience in a related field Strong instructional, interpersonal, and communication skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse populations Proficiency with professional soft skills, including organization, flexibility, and problem-solving Willingness to obtain Adult Education Certification (if not already held).
