Salary, Level D – AUD $185,917 to $204,218 per annum + 17% superannuation

Tenure: 2-Year Convertible Tenure Track or continuing appointment

Responsibilities
  • Drive high-impact research with national and international visibility across areas such as large language models, social media analytics, and the application of AI and NLP to understanding and improving online information ecosystems.
  • Contribute to and shape the strategic direction of research and education in Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing.
  • Lead innovative programs, mentor emerging researchers, and contribute to institutional strategy, governance, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Mentor and supervise higher degree research students to successful completion.
  • Deliver high-quality teaching and contribute to curriculum development.
  • Build strong partnerships across academia and industry.
  • Demonstrate clear leadership within the discipline, including contributing to strategic initiatives, academic governance, or program development.
Qualifications
  • PhD in a related discipline and/or relevant work experience.
  • Established academic with a strong, sustained track record of high-impact research in Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing.
  • Growing national or international reputation in the field.
  • Expertise in large language models, social media analytics, model alignment, interpretability, and real-world impact of AI/NLP.
  • Proven ability to secure competitive research funding and lead research initiatives.
  • Experience delivering high-quality teaching and curriculum development at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
  • Experience with educational technologies and online delivery methods.
  • Excellent record of recruiting and supervising high‑calibre students.
  • Demonstrated success in curriculum development and improvement.
  • Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Commitment to student equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Track record in research leadership with high‑quality, high‑impact outcomes.
  • Understanding of UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values, and relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health and safety responsibilities and commitment to relevant training.
