Position: 10-11th Grade ELA Instructor (Fall 2026)
Location: New York

Position Overview

Instructors will join SEO's community to implement a rigorous college‑prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students. Using our original curriculum and a student‑centered, anti‑oppressive approach, instructors coach and facilitate learning.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach four periods of ELA and/or advisory each week.
  • Follow lesson plans and meet objectives, maintaining rigorous instruction and student engagement.
  • Utilize learning technologies including Brightspace, G Suite, and Zoom chat in a blended learning environment.
  • Read, internalize, and prepare materials prior to teaching.
  • Adjust pacing and activities to meet students’ needs.
  • Calculate grades per rubrics, provide growth‑oriented feedback, and keep the Brightspace gradebook updated within one week of grading.
  • Maintain a restorative, responsive classroom culture that fosters student connection and relationships.
  • Attend all scheduled meetings, professional development, and coaching sessions; respond promptly to emails and chats.
  • Meet with instructional coach at least twice per semester to receive feedback and implement recommendations.
Courses and Advisory Assignments
  • 10th‑Grade ELA:
    Exploring Arguments;
    Advisory:
    Intersectionality in Society and Identity & Empowerment.
  • 11th‑Grade ELA:
    Personal Statement Writing;
    Advisory:
    Self‑Exploration and Relationship Building and Level All.
  • Summer Academy locations: 10th‑Grade – Baruch College; 11th‑Grade – LIU Brooklyn.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a content‑related field.
  • Teaching certification, K‑12 classroom experience, and/or college‑level teaching experience.
  • Experience working with high‑school‑aged students.
Compensation & Work Details
  • Hourly rate: $50/hour.
  • Non‑exempt under FLSA.
  • Location:

    New York, NY (on‑site at LIU Brooklyn for 11th Grade, Baruch College for 10th Grade).
  • Program hours:
    Up to 10 hours per week.
  • Schedule:

    Saturday, 8:45AM–3:05PM.
  • Orientation:
    Thursday, 9/10, 5:30–8:00PM on Zoom.
  • On‑site kick‑off:
    Saturday, 9/12.
  • Saturday Academy sessions: 9/19, 9/26, 10/3, 10/17, 10/24, 11/7, 11/14, 11/21, 12/5, 12/12.
