Position: Dean Position at an Educational Institution
Location: New York

A leading educational institution in Amman invites applications from highly qualified and experienced academic leaders for the position of Dean. This senior leadership role is critical to advancing the institution’s academic mission, strategic growth, research excellence, and engagement with relevant professional and industry sectors

The Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative leader of the Master’s Program, responsible for advancing high-quality teaching, research, and professional training in media, journalism, digital communication, and related disciplines. The Dean ensures that all academic programs delivered in Arabic and/or English meet national and international standards while fostering innovation, creativity, and strong industry engagement. The position aligns the Master’s Program mission with the broader strategic direction of the academic institution.

The Dean is responsible for providing a clear and forward-looking leadership vision for the institution's Master’s Program. The role involves close collaboration with the CEO and executive leadership team, faculty, industry partners, and the wider community to enhance academic excellence, innovation, and graduate employability.
Reporting Structure
The Dean reports directly to the CEO, in accordance with the institution’s organizational structure, and provides academic leadership and supervision to faculty members and administrative staff within the MA programs.

Responsibilities include:

• Ensuring the effective execution of academic and administrative responsibilities

• Leading academic functions

• Cultivating relationships with media institutions, industry partners, governmental bodies, and the wider community to support the Masters’ programs

• Promoting excellence in teaching and research

Key Responsibilities
1.
Strategic Leadership

• Ensure that academic programs, research priorities, and institutional initiatives remain aligned with national, regional, and global developments in areas relevant to the institution’s mandate.

• Lead continuous enhancement of academic programs and strategic planning processes

2. Academic Excellence

• Oversee the design, delivery, and quality assurance of academic programs

• Ensure alignment with national and international accreditation standards

• Promote innovative teaching practices and experiential learning.

• Overseeing the student admissions process

• Conduct outreach activities to promote the Master’s programs

3. Faculty Development

• Recommend hiring, promotion, and retention of qualified faculty and media professionals

• Mentor and support faculty in teaching, research, and professional practice

• Promote academic integrity, professionalism, creativity, and innovation

4. Research and Innovation

• Foster a strong research culture

• Encourage interdisciplinary and applied research initiatives

• Support faculty and students in securing research funding and publishing

5. Student Success

• Enhance student engagement, retention, and career readiness

• Strengthen internships, mentorship, experiential learning, and industry placements

6. Industry Engagement and External Relations

• Build and sustain strategic partnerships with media organizations and international institutions to facilitate student training and employment

• Represent the institution at academic conferences and community events

7. Resource and Financial Management

• Oversee management of the Master’s program budgets.

8. Accreditation and Compliance

• Ensure compliance with institutional policies and accreditation requirements

• Lead accreditation reviews and continuous improvement initiatives

Leadership Priorities for the Dean
Lead the development of new academic programs and partnerships in alignment with the institution’s vision, mission, and strategic priorities.

Required Qualifications

• PhD in Journalism, Media Studies, Strategic Communication and Mass Communication, or a related field from a reputable accredited institution

• Academic distinction with appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor.

• Minimum of five years of senior academic leadership experience at an accredited university

• Distinguished record of teaching, research, and scholarly publications

• Strong command of English and Arabic, written and spoken

• Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, curriculum development, and quality assurance

• Knowledge of emerging trends in digital media, AI in communication, journalism innovation, and media technologies

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with international and regional accreditation processes

• Industry experience in journalism, broadcasting, digital media, AI, or strategic communication

• academic project management
