Teaching Matters is a national nonprofit organization headquartered in New York City with a mission to close the opportunity gap in education for underserved and historically marginalized children. We partner with schools and districts to support teachers and leaders in developing the skills needed to improve instructional practices and student outcomes.
We are seeking an exceptional educational consultant to support transformative instructional improvements in public schools across NYC. The role involves coaching teachers and administrators onsite in schools across the five boroughs, focusing on culturally responsive and engaging learning experiences for all students.
Responsibilities- Coach teachers and school leaders in creating and implementing culturally responsive lessons, resources, and activities.
- Develop customized instructional coaching plans based on structured needs assessments.
- Coach teachers within cycles focused on key teaching competencies.
- Differiate teacher support based on individual needs and address necessary mindset shifts.
- Facilitate teacher teams reflecting on practice, analyzing data to identify inequitable practices, and review student work toward improving pedagogy and outcomes.
- Guide school leaders to make critical changes to systems, structures, and communication to foster professional collaboration and student success.
- Build teachers and leaders’ understanding and proficiency in culturally responsive pedagogy and racial literacy.
- Build trusting relationships with partners that meet educators where they are and empower them to grow professionally.
- Minimum of 4 years experience as a math coach and/or minimum of 4 years of teaching.
- Strong content knowledge in mathematics with a focus on culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy.
- Demonstrated effectiveness in achieving ambitious, measurable student results.
- Experience facilitating teacher teams or groups to achieve student outcomes.
- Dynamic presenter comfortable engaging large groups of educators in professional workshops and work‑sessions.
- Experience teaching and/or coaching teachers in culturally responsive practices and curriculum development.
- Passion for advocating for students and communities traditionally marginalized and under‑resourced.
- Experience in urban schools.
- Exemplary skills in technology and facility in utilizing Zoom, Google Suite, and other online collaboration tools.
- Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, organization, writing and communication skills.
- Superior interpersonal skills to motivate and lead others at all levels within a school.
- Deep commitment to Teaching Matters’ mission, vision, and core values.
- Supporting students acquiring English or multilingual learners.
- Supporting students with special needs.
- Strong background and experience in research‑based culturally responsive teaching.
Per diem rates range from $640.56 to $666.06 per day, training days $540.60.
Full time salary $83,471 - $97,381.
