The Charter Middle School for Law and Social Justice (LSJ) provides students with a rigorous and engaging middle school education that prepares them for success in high school, college, and future careers. Position Overview The Charter Middle School for Law and Social Justice is seeking a Middle School ENL (English as a New Language) Teacher who is passionate about supporting multilingual learners and committed to helping students develop strong English language proficiency while accessing rigorous academic content.
The ideal candidate will design engaging, standards-aligned instruction that supports language development across listening, speaking, reading, and writing while fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. The ENL teacher will collaborate with classroom teachers to ensure multilingual learners receive the support they need to succeed academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities Plan and implement standards-aligned ENL instruction aligned with New York State Learning Standards and NYSED ENL guidelines
Develop lessons that support English language development in listening, speaking, reading, and writing
Differentiate instruction to support multilingual learners at varying proficiency levels
Collaborate with content teachers to support language development across subject areas
Use instructional technology platforms such as Apple Classroom, Formative, and other digital tools to support instruction and track student progress
Monitor student progress using formative and summative assessments and adjust instruction accordingly
Maintain accurate ENL documentation and compliance requirements as required by NYSEDProvide clear and timely communication with families regarding student progress
Foster a structured, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment
Participate in professional development, grade team meetings, and school-wide initiatives

Bachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, or a related field
Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience, preferably at the middle school level
New York State ENL or TESOL Certification (or actively working toward certification)
Strong classroom management, organizational, and communication skills
Experience supporting multilingual learners in diverse classroom settings
Demonstrated success working in urban, diverse, or non-traditional school settings
Experience integrating instructional technology platforms such as Apple Classroom, Formative, or similar digital tools to enhance instruction and assessment
Ability to create a structured, engaging, and student-centered learning environment
Master’s degree in Education, TESOL, or a related field preferred; bilingual Spanish skills are a plus
