About the role...

We are looking for Tour Directors to serve as Group Leaders for our Choose Your Own Pace:
Hiking the Adirondacks in North River, NY program (Program 23151). The ideal candidates will be local to the program location. In order to lead these programs, Program Leaders must be able to walk at least 10 miles on varied terrain with moderate climbs and descents, climb at least 2,000 ft. up and descend 2,000 ft. down steeper terrain on hikes of at least 6 miles (daily hiking of up to 10 miles and at an elevation of at least 4,000 ft.),

and scramble up and down rocky terrain.

The most consequential element of any Road Scholar program is the Group Leader. As the foundation and often only consistent variable of the program experience, the Group Leader performance drives the quality of the program. Ultimately, the primary role of a Road Scholar Group leader is to ensure the group experiences all program elements in a fluid, meaningful, and enjoyable way.

From beginning to end, the Group Leader oversees all essential academic and non‑academic features. The Group Leader is expected to support with delivering educational talks and experiences and tying together the overall theme of the program.

This program is a 6-day, 5-night active outdoor program located in North River, NY. Program activities take place at Garnet Hill Lodge, a rustic resort located in the Adirondacks, with local experts meeting the group on‑site. For this program, the Moderate and Challenging Hike levels each include a 1/4‑mile paddle in a kayak on one day of the program. Program departures and a general itinerary of the program can be found on the Road Scholar website.

This is a part‑time/seasonal opportunity. Due to the seasonal nature of the role, this position is not benefits eligible. Hourly rates vary based on program location which ranges from $15.00 to $23.00 per hour plus tips. CTP Certificate for Group Leaders required or extensive professional tourism experience.

Group Leader will also need a valid driver’s license. May need to drive a van for some of the activities on the program. Insurance will be provided by Garnet Hill Lodge.

• Review PIFs (Participant Information Forms) and relevant Program Information
• Send Pre Program Email to participants (optional)

On‑Site Program Responsibilities:

• Lead and manage all logistics and responsible for supporting educational delivery and quality including but not limited to:
• Airport meet & greet (when transfer is included); facilitate hotel check‑in and registration.
• Reconfirm vendors & included activities (instructors, local guides, coach, restaurants, etc.).
• Conduct Orientation and Farewell Briefings and Daily Wrap‑up Briefings
• Accompany participants to all scheduled program activities and be available 24‑7.
• Enhance “free time” opportunities through providing suggestions and organize group dining opportunities.
