Opportunities

NU-NYC is seeking adjunct faculty to teach:

  • MATH 1220 Mathematics of Art
  • MATH 1231 Calculus for Business and Economics
Workload and Compensation

Four contact hours per course. Pay rate is $6,284.40 per course. Course rosters are capped at 18.

Course Information

Mathematics of Art: Presents mathematical connections and foundations for art. Topics may include linear perspective and vanishing points, symmetry and patterns, tilings and polygons, Platonic solids and polyhedra, golden ratio, non-Euclidean geometry, hyperbolic geometry, fractals, and other topics.

Calculus for Business and Economics: Provides an overview of differential calculus including derivatives of power, exponential, logarithmic, and logistic functions. Derivatives are used to model rates of change, to estimate change, to optimize functions, and in marginal analysis. The integral calculus is applied to accumulation functions and future value. Emphasis is on realistic business and economics problems, the development of mathematical models from raw business data and the translation of mathematical results into verbal expressions appropriate for the business setting.

The course incorporates the use of a graphing calculator.

Schedule

Mathematics of Art: Offered Mondays and Thursdays, 11:45 AM – 1:25 PM at Found Residence Hall, 525 Lexington Avenue (between E 48th and 49th Street), New York, NY 10017.

Calculus for Business and Economics: Two sections offered:

  • Tuesdays and Fridays, 8:00 AM – 9:40 AM
  • Tuesdays and Fridays, 9:50 AM – 11:30 AM

Location for this course:
Carson Hall, 221

E. 71st Street (between 2nd and 3rd Ave.), New York, NY 10021.

The semester runs from September 9 through December 20, 2026.
