We are seeking an experienced choral educator to lead a high school choral residency at a Manhattan public high school. The role focuses on vocal technique, musicianship, ensemble singing, artistic expression, and performance preparation.

The choral educator will build a welcoming choir culture, select varied repertoire, and prepare students for midyear and end-of-year performances. Candidates should be comfortable adapting instruction for students with a range of learning needs and collaborating with 92NY staff, school administrators, and the school music department.

Job Responsibilities
  • Plan and lead weekly high school choral residency sessions in partnership with 92NY and school staff.
  • Conduct rehearsals that build vocal technique, musicianship, ensemble skills, confidence, and performance readiness.
  • Teach healthy vocal technique, listening skills, part-singing, musical expression, and collaborative ensemble practice.
  • Select and prepare varied choral repertoire appropriate to students' experience levels.
  • Prepare students for midyear, end-of-year, or other school/community performances.
  • Adapt instruction in collaboration with school staff to support students with diverse learning needs.
  • Communicate consistently with 92NY staff, school administrators, music faculty, and school partners.
  • Participate in required trainings, planning meetings, rehearsals, performances, and professional development.
  • Arrive prepared for each residency and manage music, materials, and rehearsal needs.
  • Complete required program documentation, including photos, attendance records, student testimonials, or other materials requested by 92NY.
Experience, Education, & Skills Desired
  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Choral Conducting, or a related field required.
  • 3-5 years of experience teaching choral music in public schools or comparable educational settings.
  • Experience working with high school students strongly preferred.
  • Experience directing school, youth, community, or other choral ensembles and preparing students for performance.
  • Strong knowledge of vocal pedagogy, healthy vocal technique, choral conducting, and varied choral repertoire.
  • Ability to create a positive rehearsal environment that supports musical growth, participation, discipline, and ensemble collaboration.
  • Experience adapting instruction for students with disabilities and diverse learning needs.
  • Strong classroom management, communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Keyboard skills preferred.
  • Current fingerprint clearance through the New York City and New York State Departments of Education preferred.
  • Spanish language proficiency and/or experience working with multilingual learners preferred.

Residency sessions typically consist of 45-minute class periods. Schedules are determined by school assignment.
