Position Details

York College, founded in 1966, is a center of academic excellence in the heart of Jamaica, Queens. One of the eleven senior colleges in The City University of New York, the College’s mission is to enrich students' lives by fostering an environment where they’ll grow into passionate and engaged learners.

York’s academic programs are housed in three schools:
The School of Arts & Sciences, The School of Business and Information Systems, and The School of Health Sciences and Professional Programs. Over sixty baccalaureate programs from across a variety of disciplines, including accounting, aviation management, business, computer science, journalism, social work, teacher education, a dual BS/MS degree in Occupational Therapy, and one of the top-ranked nursing programs in New York State, provide students with opportunities to study liberal arts, sciences, and professional programs.

The College also offers six graduate programs:
Aviation Management, Clinical Trials Management, Pharmaceutical Science and Business, Physician Assistant, Social Work and Nursing Education.

Located in Queens, the most ethnically diverse county in New York State, the College enrolls 7,000 students from over 95 nations. Nine out of ten students are members of a racial/ethnic minority group, and more than half of undergraduates are the first in their families to pursue higher education.

The College’s 50-acre campus encompasses seven buildings, including science and computer labs, music and television studios, a Performing Arts Center, and a Health and Physical Education Center. The College recently completed seven major construction projects, with more scheduled for the future. In addition, its neighborhood is at the center of a renaissance fueled by economic revitalization.

Responsibilities
  • Directs College activities and operations related to Academic matters to support academic policy and student learning strategies, consulting on key student success initiatives and improving student retention and graduation rate (e.g. EAB, Navigate, NISS).
  • Designs, implements and monitors campus-wide systems and analytic tools to improve academic planning and student success.
  • Develops strategic plans and submits resolutions to the Board of Trustees and other official correspondence.
  • Directs multi-campus curricular initiatives (e.g. 4+1 programs, articulation agreements).
  • Manages faculty personnel actions such as tenure, promotion, academic leaves, and Certificate of Continuous Employment (CCE) for faculty in lecturer titles.
  • Collaborates with academic units to maintain a current list of all P&B actions for personnel (reappointment, CCE, tenure, promotion);
    Shepherd candidate applications through the electronic submission process;
    Prepare voting system for candidates, save vote outcomes and send voting records to Provost and President.
  • Liaises with York College Curriculum Committee and Senate for the submission and tracking of curriculum proposals through the entire curriculum process.
  • Works closely with HR and the Office of Diversity and Compliance with new hires and other personnel matters;
    Oversees staff involved with the preparation and maintenance of files and ensures timely submission of personnel actions.
  • Coordinates and manages all of the schools’ marketing and external affairs efforts. Serves as the school's principal liaison with the College-wide Office of Communication and Marketing.
Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and eight years' relevant experience required.

Candidates must have strong curriculum-related experience, as well as experience with campus-based shared governance, accreditation, program review, catalog structure and course management systems.

In addition, candidates will need strong written, verbal and web-based communication skills to facilitate the flow of accurate academic information.
