Overview

BASIS Independent Schools, a subsidiary of Spring Education Group, is a national network of PreK–12 private, secular schools, with 12 schools located in California, New York, Northern Virginia, and Washington State. BASIS Independent Brooklyn Lower School, a grades PK–2 private school, is seeking qualified candidates for a Primary School Teacher (Grade
1) for the coming school year.

What You’ll Do

Our Primary School Teachers, also known as Learning Expert Teachers (LETs), cultivate a culture of joyful learning as they co-create with the students. LETs at the elementary level customize education to meet the individual needs of each student. Teachers love teaching, and students love learning. Guided by the belief that any child can excel with the right support, LETs’ deep pedagogical expertise ensures that each student receives a world-class education with personalized attention.

Responsibilities
  • As one of two teachers in the elementary classroom, LETs are responsible for one classroom of students—all day, every day—and work with the Subject Expert Teacher to deliver lessons, engage students, and create an environment where students understand and retain what they learn in class.
  • Utilize expertise in different pedagogical methods to provide individual or small group instruction to meet diverse student needs.
  • Establish and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an optimal learning atmosphere.
  • Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
  • Communicate with parents via email, conferences, and other means to discuss students’ progress and interpret BASIS Independent Schools culture.
  • Identify student needs and collaborate with Subject Experts or other professional staff to assess and support health, attitude, and learning issues.
  • Supervise students during classroom transitions throughout the day.
Essential Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of and passion for the subject taught.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and engage students in rigorous content.
  • Ability to create a positive classroom community and build relationships with students.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Open to feedback and continuous growth.
  • Creativity in instructional and classroom management strategies (high warmth and high firmness).
  • Cooperative, collaborative, supportive, flexible.
  • Strong work ethic and a “do whatever it takes” mindset.
Additional Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications:

    A bachelor’s or master’s degree in early childhood or Elementary Education. Demonstrated success in student achievement, child development, and classroom management.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

    A minimum of 2 years of experience as a classroom teacher. Strong communication skills and openness to new ideas in teaching methods.
