Educational Alliance, a 136-year-old New York institution, is a vibrant, dynamic organization serving New Yorkers from all walks of life. We serve everyone regardless of the language they speak, where they come from, or their socioeconomic status. We believe that everyone should have a chance to live a better life and that arts and culture, education, health and wellness, and social services can help lay that foundation.

The 14Y After School Program engages hands, heads, and hearts for children in K-5th grade attending schools across the East Village. After School is a neurodiverse community, and all staff members are responsible for supporting neurodivergent and neurotypical students to have a successful after school day.

We are seeking a part-time After School Art Teacher who will be responsible for creating and implementing engaging, hands-on visual arts programming for elementary-aged students. The Art Teacher fosters a fun, inclusive, and creative environment where students develop artistic skills, self-expression, confidence, and creativity through a variety of age-appropriate projects and mediums. Our art program encourages instructors to bring their unique artistic perspective and expertise to the classroom.

Past classes include traditional studio art, painting and drawing, 3D art and sculpture, crafting, mixed media, and imaginative programs such as Enchanted Engineering that combine art, design, and creative problem-solving. We welcome educators with fresh ideas who are excited to inspire curiosity, creativity, and joyful learning through hands-on experiences.

  • Submit weekly lesson plans to the After School Program Manager using the provided template.
  • Develop and facilitate engaging 45-minute weekly art classes for groups of up to 18 students, organized by age and inclusive of varying needs and abilities.
  • Design progressive art lessons that build artistic skills over an 8-week enrichment quarter.
  • Teach a variety of visual art techniques using different mediums, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, 3D art, collage, mixed media, crafting, printmaking, and other creative processes.
  • Encourage creativity, self-expression, experimentation, problem-solving, and artistic exploration in a supportive classroom environment.
  • Develop original projects and class concepts that encourage students to explore materials, ideas, and creative processes.
  • Incorporate After School values and seasonal themes rooted in Jewish sensibilities into art projects whenever appropriate.
  • Submit a weekly supply and materials list to the After School Program Manager in advance to ensure all necessary materials are available for upcoming classes.

  • Ensure supplies, tools, and materials are cleaned, organized, and stored properly after each class.
  • Work with the After School Operations Associate and Program Manager to maintain an organized inventory of art supplies and materials while being mindful of the program budget.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and time management skills to ensure classes begin and end on schedule.
  • Communicate regularly with the After School Program Manager and Inclusion Coordinator regarding student needs and concerns.
Leadership and Supervision
  • As a member of the After School Teaching Staff, model professional behavior, creativity, and respectful communication for students and colleagues at all times.
  • Supervise students during class to ensure a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
